The Carili Sea

The Carili sea is actually not an ocean but just a massive salt lake, after the split of Laeriss it became the primary body of salt water in the entire world. Almost every salt-water dwelling fish in the wild lives somewhere in the massive Carili sea, the ecosystem created by these fish is one of the most complex and amazing in the entire world of Laeriss, as they coexist with thousands of different aquatic species. The other seas and oceans of Laeriss all spilled off into the open sky during the split. Some of the water fell back down to Laeriss creating a huge torrent of rainfall unlike anything the world had seen, the rest froze in space and now orbits around Laeriss, but this has left the Carili sea all alone on Laeriss as the only sea left. Cliffs surround the sea created by when salt water was spilling out before the waterfalls were dammed off. Pirates are a menace to the people near or on the Carili sea. The two biggest pirate crews sailing around the Carili sea are The Crimson Skulls and The Krakens of Death, who constantly are fighting with each other. The town of Yötka floats on the water and the Akaria ruins, a sunken town at the bottom of the sea, still sits widely undiscovered and unknown by most people.

Geography

The Carili sea is a massive salt lake located right in the middle of the continent of Quarillis. It is enormous, bigger than any other body of water on Laeriss and the only remaining sea or large body of salt water after the split. The Carili sea is immensely deep and nobody has ever ventured to the bottom. The Carili sea was lowered a bit before construction finished on the dams which hold in the water, (Dam Lyn, Dam Elset, and dam Xyr) as a consequence of this there are high cliffs with connection to the Zerion Mountains to the south of the sea. There are also some archipelagos and rock formations coming out of the water at certain points in the sea. The view of the sea from on top of the cliffs is incredible and the view from certain rock formations or islands within the sea is incredible. Many coral reefs also thrive along the bottom of the sea.

Fauna & Flora

The Carili sea is the last and only home for many of the salt water fish which originally inhabited Laeriss's oceans, which have been lost to the sky. Yet the sea has one of the most life-filled and thriving ecosystems of Laeriss and especially of the aquatic ecosystems on Laeriss. Huge coral reefs filled with life cover the seafloor, all kinds of crab, squid, octopus, and creatures never even seen by surface dwellers crawl across the bottom of the ocean. Schools of tiny fish are like giant hordes as they swim through the ocean, trying not to be eaten by giant sharks and other predators dwelling within the waters. Huge swarms of krill are swallowed up by giant whales and dolphins catch fish within their maws. Turtles eat kelp and tiny particles from the water before gliding off and crawling onto some sea shore where they relax under the sun. Meanwhile pelicans swoop down, dipping their giant beaks into the water and swallowing an entire group of fish whole.
"The ecosystem of the Carili sea was something to behold, even before the split, now we can only gawk at all the wonders that the complex habitat of millions of fish, plants, and crustaceans provides for us measly surface dwellers." -Biologist and writer, Ara Tadenhod

Natural Resources

As the last large body of salt water on Laeriss the Carili sea as quite a few exploitable natural resources. Mainly is the plethora of aquatic resources from the many many things which live in the sea. Millions of fish, big and small, live in the Carili sea, fishermen are always fishing for just a fraction of the bounties provided by the waters. Crabs, lobsters, oysters, and all sorts of delicacies and valuable creatures live in the waters waiting to be captured by the one who seeks them out. Those creatures sell for multiple gold or depending on the size, multiple platinums worth. That is truly just the tip of the iceberg though, still so many valuable things live in the Carili sea which would be worth a fortune to a common farmer or the like. On the islands within the sea rare plants sometimes bearing fruit like no other can be found, these incredibly rare plants and fruit can be sold to the right people for a large sum of money. The Carili sea provides endless boons for the one willing to search for them and venture onto the open seas.
