Orwei

The Bookkeeper

"Knowledge, learning, writing, creating, this is the true purpose of us all and this is what Orwei represents. He inspires deep thought and great advancement, he is the movement of society towards a brighter future only reached with the help of learning and technology!"
-Theas Alasarine, scientist, scholar, writer, inventor, and devoted priest of Orwei.
Orwei is the god of knowledge, writing, craft, and machines, he represents the pursuit of knowledge and potential of technology. He encourages all to read, to write, to observe, and to study all that they can. One of the most important principles enforced by Orwei is how important it is to write down all discoveries, so when you die the knowledge will not be lost. While Orwei is not the actual creator of constructs since of course mortals are the ones responsible for making most of them, he does adopt all sentient machines as his own children out of respect for the greatness of technology and what it can achieve. The appearance of Orwei is strange as it is that of a mix between a short humanoid and an armadillo-like creature. Orwei wishes for all knowledge and technology to one day be fully explored by all and he spreads this message wherever he goes.

Divine Domains

The domains of Orwei are knowledge, exploration, books, machines, craft, writing, and automatons. He represents the pursuit of knowledge and advancement of science, as well as the importance of the written word. Orwei inspires his followers to write down everything they can, for scholars in the future will one day look upon those books and be able to understand history by their words. He also stands as the main god for most sentient automatons since few other gods accept them as real living creatures.

Holy Books & Codes

The followers of Orwei live by the tomb of Mekas, a book written by a follower of Orwei named Mekas with the divine guidance of Orwei and his approval. The book tells of history, science, and technology as well as the laws of Orwei. While the tomb of Mekas was written by Mekas thousands of years ago, Orwei encourages his followers to revise the book when new knowledge comes to light, as to not cling onto ancient lies. This takes place in the city of Oarilī, where the high wizard accompanied by the greatest scholars in all the city make changes to the book with the guidance of their god. The tomb of Mekas not only serves to teach the code of Orwei, but also is the single greatest widespread encyclopedia on Laeriss.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The symbol of Orwei is an eye with gears for the pupil, iris, and cornea. Many books are produced by followers of Orwei and often on the side of these books will be located his symbol, denoting that he is the god of knowledge and inspired the creation of that book within the follower.

Tenets of Faith

Orwei does not demand much of his followers, asking they only follow a few important rules, though breaking these rules is an instant way to be denounced by Orwei.
-Always write down what is happening and what you have learned.
-Never destroy a book or document unless it is a great threat.
-Never withhold knowledge from those who ask unless the knowledge is very dangerous.
-Never enslave an automaton or treat it wrongly.
-Always confront those who seek to stop the spread of knowledge.

Holidays

Every year during the last week of the year a follower of Orwei must read the tomb of Mekas from end to end, ensuring that they will go into the new year filled with knowledge and thirst for learning. As well as always reminding them the glory of the world and great influence of Orwei.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Orwei wishes for the sapient species of Laeriss to reach incredible technological heights and learn about the makeup of their world. He wants all history and science and technology to one day be housed in the tomb of Mekas, no matter how large or what form the tomb must take to achieve this. And for the people of Laeriss to give up their petty fights and instead focus on advancing their knowledge.

Physical Description

Body Features

Those who see Orwei or draw depictions of him describe him as being relatively short compared to the other gods yet surprisingly strong looking with powerful arms and legs. Though in contrast to his arms and legs, Orwei is usually shown as having a quite large stomach. He also is said to have an armadillo shell on his back as well as claws on his hands and feet. The skin of Orwei is a rich brass color and from certain angles even looks metallic in nature.

Facial Features

The face of Orwei is slightly doughy with a pointed nose and big bushy white eye brows. He has a small mouth contrasted with tall pointed ears on the top of his head and very large eyes which are often covered with strange opaque goggles. Though when his eyes are seen the left one appears a deep brown like molten chocolate and the right orange-yellow as a piece of shining amber.

Identifying Characteristics

The most identifying feature of Orwei is most likely the large armadillo shell located unto his back. Unlike a normal armadillo shell it is an egg shell white color matched by the claws on his feet and hands.

Social

Speech

When Orwei speaks to his disciples he usually has a loud and booming voice which sounds old and wizened yet still hearty and boisterous. He often finds speaking to people amusing but does not take most mortals extremely seriously. He is not extremely direct as he delights in confusing those he talks to, making them ask questions, or giving them a puzzling riddle to think about. He has an eastern Laeran accent which is most common on Rena and says "yes" a lot in sentences, usually multiple times. *Cough cough, Noble British accent

The church of Orwei

The Orwei church is the most important church of the five which make up The Noble Creed as Orwei is a god of absolute order and learning without care for good or evil. The church of Orwei is a place of learning and knowledge where books are everywhere and people try their hardest to make the next groundbreaking discovery. His churches are usually grand halls with multiple floors filled with books on shelves, tables, chairs, and every other clean surface you can find in the building. *usually the churches have two or three floors, extremely fancy ones may have four. At the back of the hall on its highest floor is normally where the great stand of the priest sits on top of a grand balcony. Most churches of Orwei are mainly made of wood and possibly marble, the inventors residing in the church often run things using the help of constructs which use technology not seen in many other places.

The followers of Orwei

Orwei's followers are mostly made up of scholars, writers, artists, inventors, and builders, as not being one of those things would contradict the very religion itself. They make amazing technologies rarely seen elsewhere on Laeriss and nearly never seen anywhere else on the main continent group of Laeriss. The one exception to their supremacy in the technological arts are the Dragon born of Zaquii who exceed even the church of Orwei. Orwei's followers are spread upon many races but the most common are Aarakocra, Gnomes, Halflings, some Elves, and of course a majority of the small sentient construct population.
