The Dreughold

From the most ancient of days, the Dokkalfar, (Stone-Fae) dwelt in the Dreughold, which they carved with an enchanted song from the mountainside. Initially, it was a great smooth wall that curved around the entrance to a steep valley. As they dwelt longer, they continued to build within the valley. The walls grew higher and tunnels were sung into the mountain-side, connecting great mansions and towers. In time, it became a fully city of its own.

Geography

The Dreughold was carved on the northern range of Ynys Draig, in a cleft cradled between a rock-face and a mountain lake with dark, particulate-filled waters filled by an underground spring.   Short springy grass hugs the land flat enough to grow anything on, supported by small farms and villages along the lakeshore. However, the growing season is short and often covered in snow.   Situated at an elevation of about nine thousand feet, the air is crisp, clear, and thin for low-landers. That leads to more sparse tree-growth, with stunted, wind-twisted evergreen trees.
