Session 12

This chapter begins with Sam Calas, on his way back to the Gate House after spending the day helping their legal team compile reports and the afternoon training at the garrison's gym. Upon arrival, he saw his companions leaving thus he made a mental note to catch up with them later. When he eventually did, it was outside the Crucial Carp just as Wilma had stepped inside.

Sensing that things might end poorly if they just barged in, they decided to approach the situation more tactfully. The plan required Oryim to go in, disguised and act as a normal patron while the others cased the joint from the outside. And, as always, some cased better than others. While Liaden O'Legal was able to sneak around the back and peer in through the window, Sam and Kalydin did their best to do the saem from the front entrance.

As Oryim entered, the bar was curiously empty, with only a handful of people inside. Each of them had pale skin and were wearing dark clothes, with robes hung in the coat rack near the hearth to dry. As Oryim attempted to make conversation with some of the strangers, they were immediately hostile, telling him that he would be better off finding another bar to drink at. Under the table there was a clicking noise which signaled to Oryim that it was, in fact, time to leave.

On the outside our heroes reconvened and hatched a new plan. Oryim would scale the building in lizard form while the others waited outside and watched the door. Then Oryim would break in through a window and try to hear what was being said. With the plan organised, they set it in motion. However, as soon as Oryim made it to a window, he elected to smash it in.

The breaking of the window was audible downstairs and thus those who were on the ground floor became alert, drawing weapons and looking around for any hostility. Sensing that things were going wrong, Oryim decided that it would be best if they climbed onto the roof and waited, while Liaden, Sam and Kalydin decided that running across the street to the nearest alleyway would be a better idea.

From a new vantage point, Liaden, Sam and Kalydin waited. Watching carefully for any signs of movement from within. While waiting, Sam was visited by his guide, the robe which now sported a skeletal body. The guide told him to remember this moment, and to remember his hesitation but to never let himself be drawn to excessive anger, as it would soon manifest into wrath. With the warning imparted, and the night dragging on, the guide vanished. Seeing that they woud be there for a while, Sam decided to get the three of them some food, walking to a local street vendor for a kebab.

After hours of waiting in the wind and the rain, the strangers emerged from the Crucial Carp flanking Wilma. The party mobilised to follow, making sure to keep a safe distance. The group walked for a while before stopping in a small grove where Wilma was handed something. Being too far away, our heroes were unable to spot what it was and resolved to try and pick the girl's pockets. With the object handed over, Wilma went on her way. Following her trail, the party arrived at The Filthy Ore, another tavern in town. After a brief investigation they found out that Wilma was employed here and was reprimanded for being late to work again. As she went into the back room to change, Oryim hatched a plan to sneak in afterwards and search her belongings to find whatever it was she was given.

When she emerged, Liaden attempted to help Oryim with his plan by pushing Sam into a waitress who was carrying a tray full of drinks, causing them to spill out across the floor. In the commotion, Oryim snuck into the back room and found Wilma's stuff. Doing his best to thoroughly search in what little time he had, he found nothing. Thus he slunk back to the group and informed them that she must still have it on her. Fortunately, Wilma spotted the party and came over. She told them to stop following her and to stop being creepy wierdos. While she spoke Liaden checked Wilma's trouser pockets, finding nothing, she waited for Wilma to leave again before letting her companions know that it must be in her apron pocket. Realising that there was little more they could do, they decided to have a few drinks and turn in for the night.

The following morning, they found themselves on Rakroth's door step once again. This time welcomed in by his wife, Cassandra. The party sat down with Cassandra and Rakroth to discuss what was going on with their daughter. As Liaden and Oryim spoke, the parents became increasingly concerned, asking if there was anything they could do apart from waiting at the sidelines. However, before a response could come, there was a knock on the door, and Rakroth excused himself to answer it. Cassandra continued the conversation in his absence before Rakroth's nervous voice was heard welcoming someone in. Before the party could react, into the living stepped the Lady of Fatoris, The Mistress herself.
