Elixir #73

Recently, the dwarven alchemist, Hjolmek Ironhold, has discovered a treatment for Blind Rot, a fungal disease that causes blindness.   Hjolmek discovered the anti-fungal properties of his Elixir #73 while he was working to create a cleaning solvent for the Honorable Guild of Leather Craftsmen. Once, it was discovered that the Elixir was also a cure for Blind Rot, Hjolmek began working on mass producing it for the Academy of Healing Arts, but the Leather Craftsmen Guild has taken offense to this. They claim that since he was working on their commission to produce something for them, that they should have the exclusive rights to the Elixir.  This arguement has has caused a rift between the Guild and the Academy, in so much as the Leather Craftsmen, will no longer sell or fix any goods to the Academy, and the Academy will no longer treat any Guild members.

Manufacturing

Hjolmek has not revealed his secret recipe for Elixir #73, and the process is a long and labor intensive one right now. Hjolmek and his apprentices are working to simplify and mass produce the medicine as quickly as possible.

Access & Availability
Elixir #73, is only manufactured in Quara at Hjolmek Ironhold's laboratory. All of Elixir #73 that he can make has been pre-purchased by the Academy of Healing Arts so there is none available for general purchase, but Hjolmek hopes that once production is ramped up he will be able to sell more, and start shipping it around the Empire.
Discovery
Hjolmek Ironhold, a well-known and respected alchemist in Quara was working on creating a cleaning fluid for the Honorable Guild of Leather Craftsmen for use in their work, when he noticed that his Elixir #73 had not only cleaned stains from leather, but was also excellent at removing mold and fungus from the hides. He knew of the problem with Blind Rot as he had also done work with the Academy of Healing Arts on several other treatments. He approached the Academy and offered Elixir #73 to the staff to see if it could be useful in the treatment of Blind Rot or any other illnesses. After several weeks of testing, Elixir #73 proved to be effective in the treatment of Blind Rot, especially if it was used early on in the infection. It has shown positive effects on long-term patients as well, enough so that the Academy has ordered large amounts of the Elixir.
