Baraz-Throng

The Baraz-Throng, or Clan Oath, marks a young dwarf's official entrance into the clan of his parents. Before making their Clan Oath in front of the clan, the young dwarves are not considered adults and do not have the rights of full clan members, including the right to speak at assemblies, to marry, to join expeditions, or to seek vengeance against those who have wronged their families.   While traditionally a young dwarf has their Baraz-Throng on the last day of Vikartide after their 25th year, the candidate must meet several requirements before they can attend the ceremony, and because of this some do not attend until a later year.

Execution

In order to be considered for the Baraz-Thring, a young dwarf must meet the following conditions:
  1. The candidate must be sponsored by a family member of the same gender. A father or uncle must place his support behind a male, and a mother or an aunt behind a female candidate. This represents the bonds of the family and is considered the most important of the requirements. The elder is staking their reputation on the young dwarf, and a failure or embarrassment of the candidate will reflect poorly on their sponsor.
  2. The candidate must have the support of the Clan's Battle Master. Sometimes the Battle Master is a member of the The Acolytes of the Axe, sometimes it is just the dwarf that has been put in charge of insuring the clan members are fully trained to defend the clan. Dwarves begin weapon training at a very early age, and if the candidate has not show the aptitude to defend the Clan, then they can not make the Oath.
  3. The candidate must have the support of some member of the clan who will vouch that they will be earnest and productive in supporting the clans goals.  This usually is some sort of supervisor of the candidate's work, religious or military pursuits.
Once these three testimonies have been given, the candidate then is able to approah the clan leaders and placin their weapon on the altar of Vikar, god of War, they then approach the Anvil of the Clan to make their Oath.

Components and tools

The Anvil of the Clan is used in the ceremony. The candidate kneels before the Anvil and places one hand on the tongs and one hand on the hammer that lie upon the Anvil. These three symbols represent the clans past, present and future prosperity, and the candidates make their Oath while touching these sacred items.
