Clan of the Severed Stones

Amphibious Giant Dynarchs

"We have been informed of the attack on our city. Rest assured, the situation is being investigated and will soon be under control. Bhunyar was built on a foundation of reason and prosperity. The day we give in to fear is the day that chaos consumes us. Should everyone remain calm, that day shall never come. This is the assurance of Andelen, daughter of Sibar."

A clan of giants that founded Bhunyar as a beacon of reason and hope. They became the city-state's Dynarchs, guarding its coasts and guiding ships through the canals to promote trade and prosperity.

Compared to the original few dozen members, their numbers have dwindled. Three giants remain: the twins Omdili and Rendili, and Andelen the daughter of Sibar. Andelen is the current headmaster of the Institute of the Arcane, and the twins are often out in the rest of the Thundermaw sea tracking down notorious sea monsters.

Genteel Giants

Culture

Compared to many other Dynarchs in Kyre, these giants have a relatively hands-off approach. Although Bhunyar's main passageways and the grand halls of the school are big enough to accommodate their passage through, they do not dwell in the city permanently. They repurposed the stone from carving out the channel to build an underwater citadel for their clan. Few have seen this this place because non-amphibious humanoids cannot visit without the giant's blessing.

They have a very complex code of conduct for interacting with each other and the denizens of their city-state, including their own dialect of giant's speech which is very difficult to pronounce by above water.

History

in the late fourth century D.L., they emerged from the sea and carved a channel up to and around a Vertex a few miles from the coast. From there, they centered a growing city around it. They trained some of the greatest wizards in the early Post-Wake era, a line of adventurers that were able to clear the region of many monsters and promote stability in a chaotic time.

When Sibar Severstone founded an instute of magic there in the 6th century D.L., it became a beacon of knowledge and hope for people of the region to rally around. While there was a great deal of knowledge taught from the clan, they admitted they weren't all-knowing and encouraged their students to continually seek understanding of the unknown. Some members of their original circle of wizards became the school's first professors.

Around a century and a half ago, city-wide mechanisms were installed to pull ships around the Vertex on lengths of chain. Since then, the Severstones haven't had much reason to visit the surface except to visit the school or make announcements. They are hard at work protecting the waters from hordes of monsters from the depths, such as Kem the Behemoth.
