Episode 27 - Set Backs
Davwyn stands before Roderic Virethorn, beseeching the church father to consider resurrecting the recently deceased Klork. Virethorn advises that he is willing to help Arnon's Bane in exchange for assistance in determining the strange occurrences surrounding Arch Bishop Lennings, who Virethorn believes is in cahoots with a devil. Virethorn provides Davwyn with a sealed letter. Moxt releases a storm of pestilence into the church as a way to cover Davwyn's retreat out of the temple. The party meets up with Virethorn's contact, Kopaldi, and are secreted into a hidden basement inside the kobald's cart. The party is escorted through the main area past several rooms that are hosting fabulous parties with leading members of Bellowvale and The Legion. After being escorted to the wine celler Moxt and Fadkat note a strange barrel in the back of the room with the ancient symbol of Titos of Korillia, believed to be from his private stash during the War of the Tormentors.
Fadkat immediately starts trying to destroy the barrel while Moxt steals a sample of the precious liquor. The party is confronted by staff and Moxt and Fadkat are permanently ejected from the establishment. While on the way out, Fadkat begins defecating all over the entrance to the cellar which is observed by all the nearby factions leaders. Davwyn retrieves Klork with his portable hole and shares a dram of the ancient brew with Virethorn. After leaving Klork with Virethorn in the cellar, the crew travels back to the Roopty Scoop. On the way there Moxt advises they first search the hospital in the hopes of locating their former compatriot Akorah. Davwyn slices his chest open to cause a distraction with the medical staff while moxt searches the hospital disguised as a Ringtail Couriers. Ultimately unsuccessful, the party returns to the Roopty Scoop where they rest for the night.
The following day the party returns to the library. They quickly defeat the paper wasps, discipher a puzzle written in the language of the Ancients, and enter the domain of the watchers Sly and Shy. The party choses to partake in the Watcher's game of Truth or Consequences and share several important truths about themselves. The party is provided with a document concerning the nature of the name Mycorjet. As Davwyn and Moxt begin to leave the library, they are confronted by the leader of the Saernclaws who demands the recently retrieved article. The two adventurers attempt to resist the dark Asimaar but they are soon ambushed by his invisible partners who were in hiding nearby. Davwyn holds the sheet to his chest with an alchemist fire and makes a deal to hand it over in exchange for his life and Moxt's. The Asimaar snatches the sheet out of Davwyn's hand and whisper's "know your place." Davwyn states that he will remember the Asimaar's face to which the man replies "You should, you were there when she made it." Davwyn is left in the The Watchers Arcadia with an uncontrolled wearbear that is polylmorphed into a sleeping sheep while Klork is called from the Great Beyond, on the other side of the city.
How will the party communicate the bad news to Aaron Frost? What is happening at the temple of Pelor to cause Virethorn to align himself with the excommunicated Klork? Why are members of the Council of Seven advocating for the name Mycorjet now that we know what it references?
