Conqueror's Folly

Look, its had a lot of other names over the years, but Conqueror's Folly is perhaps the one tha best describes it.
— Jasper Cameron, Leader of The Bronze Ravens
Ah yes, the town of Conqueror's Folly. There is a history as long as it is unfortunate. You see, if one isn't familiar one would hear a name like "Conqueror's Folly" you think of some sort of highly fortified city, possibly on an island in the middle of a river or surrounded by imposing mountains, hard to get to with any sort of numbers and in terrain that makes a siege untennable at best. What one would most certainly not picture is a mid sized town of around three thousand people situated in the plains north of the Outh Mountains and west of the Glass River surrounded by some farms with only the occasional cattle fence to act as a wall.   The town did not get its name because it was unconquerable. Those that have conquered the town usually meet with a string of unplesantness. An army laid low by consumption shortly after passing through and siezing the towns supplies. A commanding emperor that died within a week of passing through the town, slipped getting out of his bath fracturing his colar bone and later succumbing to an infection. During the reign of the Black King the town was occupied by dwarves. Those stationed there were said to have become affected by Surface Bones in weeks rather than months or years.   Back before the time of Boblin the goblin a horde of goblins was assembled by some wizard or sorcerer. The town was called some other name back then. If the houses werent made of stone they likely wouold have burned with the rest of the town. The way the story goes that goblin army and the wizard met with a fiery end in the breath of a red dragon.   All told the town has been invaded, occupied, or otherewise inconvienced 24 verifieble times that have ended with those in charge expiring in unrelated and accidental ways. Nowadays armies will go out of their way to avoid even passing near the town, though it lies at a hub or sorts of trade routes in the region. Superstition is a powerful thing.... especially if there is potentially some truth behind it.
