Grand Mages of Balepeak

Seekers of Secrets

Balepeak has a long and storied history of magic, and nowhere else does that show more than with the Grand Mages. Their academy lies in the mountains near Wolrost, and only accepts the best of the best. They strive for excellence at all costs, earning them a reputation of being cold and heartless.

Culture

Purely academically focused, the ultimate perfectionists. They drink copious amounts of Allnight to keep researching throughout all hours of the night. This is delivered by raven to all mages, as outside of the academy it is considered an illicit substance.   Members consider money to be too simple and beneath their status at mages. They have no need to participate in a world economy due to being able to magically deal with their day-to-day necessities, which enables them to continue researching without distractions. As such, they generally don't collect unnecessary money, so they can instead fill their pockets with more scrolls and Allnight.

History

Founded in 353 TA, the Grand Mages reside in Frostpeak. They owe their allegiance to the Principality of Balepeak and consider Wolrost their capital city, but function as an autonomous body, separate from the politics of the region.

Technological Level

Highly advanced knowledge of planes, magic, and technology eclipsing that of all other nations. Some think the mages can theoretically destroy the entire world in six seconds, but have no need to at the current moment. They are researching other things.

Trade & Transport

Ravens are used to deliver items to all the members while in the field. Because the mages don't generally use money, they cannot purchase supplies when outside the academy. So, the academy supplies its members with academy-crafted items, if that member is deemed skilled enough to use it.

Alliance

The Grand Mages of Balepeak found that their members survived much more frequently when accompanied by a member of the Paladin Posse, and so sought their services when completing research quests. The Paladins were delighted to work with the Mages, seeing them as friends to defeat evil with.

Friendly

Balepeak relies on the Grand Mages for protection from mystical threats, however the Grand Mages simply view Balepeak as convenient insulation from the outside world.

Traitors

The Covenant of Fire broke off from the academy as they were prohibited from bringing back Chusi. They are considered traitors to the Mages, as they align themselves to a ruler instead of research.
