Consequentialism

Consequentialism – The outcomes –even the unintended ones- determine the morality of an action. This means that while one can predict the LIKELY morality of an action, one can never be certain until the dominoes stop falling.   A consequentialist resembles a pragmatist but their 'goals' are less focused. They attempt to predict the fallout from any action. City planners, accountants, and upper echelon officers are ideal examples. On the less ideal side, conspiracy theorists and deluded paranoiacs can also lay claim to this philosophy.   STRENGTHS – Long term sustainability, fewer unintended consequences.   WEAKNESSES – A lack of knowledge or experience can lead to hesitation or after-the-fact self-flagellation.   EXAMPLES – The plutarch that invests in a rival’s holdings to bring more overall wealth to the community thereby increasing their own potential wealth, the soldier that treats citizens of an occupied territory well to lower their sympathy for the resistance.
d8   Personality Trait   1 - I like to walk through the possible outcomes of an action out loud or under my breath.   2 - I try to get everyone around me to consider the outcomes.   3 - I am controlling, sometimes micromanaging.   4 - I am manipulative, trying to ply situations socially for specific outcomes.   5 - Not to brag, but I'm a bit of a matchmaker.   6 - I laugh when things are out of control, finding a secret joy in the relief from responsibility.   7 - I am responsible for every consequence of my actions, and will always try to make amends.   8 - I have backups for Plan C.     d6   Ideal   1 - Responsibility. I am ultimately responsible for the consequences of my actions. (Good)   2 - Power. I seek to elevate myself. So long as I'm not the one suffering the consequences, I don't care. (Evil)   3 - Control. It's a clockwork universe, and the gears are visible to those who want to turn them. (Lawful)   4 - Disruption. I know JUST where to put the monkey wrench. A machine doesn't get fixed unless it's good and broken. (Chaotic)   5 - Justice. It's not the severity of the punishment that deters crime, it's the certainty. (Lawful)   6 - Community. With careful consideration, we can all come out ahead. (Good)     d6   Flaw   1 - Just because I think through the consequences of my actions doesn't mean that I'm GOOD at it...   2 - I HATE it when things don't go according to plan.   3 - I'm a control freak.   4 - I'm a bit of a Cassandra; I'm usually right, but terrible at convincing others and wind up helplessly watching.   5 - Sometimes I like watching the whole thing catch fire.   6 - I reduce everyone around me to abstracts. It makes it easier to triage, but people don't like knowing that they're just a number.
