Sanguisuge
Also known as a vampires or gremlins. These creatures are the size of a human child and share many similarities to vampire bats. However, they seem to possess a primate like intelligence and social structure. They also have a leader, known simply as The Big One to the kids of New Pembroke. The Big One is larger and stronger than the others, and seems to understand tool use.
A sanguisuge bite has the potential to spread an infection that causes changes in the victim. If they survive the initial fever, they begin to suffer from seizures, nightmares, and a craving for blood. There may be physical changes such as sharper teeth as well, but that's just speculation.
Recently Kyle Watts and Mr. Moss suffered sanguisuge bites during a fieldtrip to the breathing caves in Horse-Thief National Park.

Ecology and Habitats
Subterranean. It is unknown how widely distributed these creatures are and what climates they can inhabit. The only confirmed location is in the Breathing Caves of Horse-Thief National Park near New Pembroke, Pennsylvania.
Dietary Needs and Habits
As their name suggests, the Sanguisuge drinks blood, much like a vampire bat or leech. It seems that they don't always kill their victims, but drink their fill and then let the victim leave. It is unclear if this is normal or a special exception.

Social Structure
There appears to be a hierarchical structure. At least one sanguisuge is larger, stronger, and more intelligent than the others. This individual is simply known as The Big One.
