First World of Grista

Civilizations and Ethnicity

Golve's Kindgom

Named after the king who lead the process of reconstruction of this civilization; due to the struggles their ancestors had to face, this culture gives great importance to solidarity and community. The best lands and oceans are part of its territory, but they are fair in the trade with Covenant Nations, and allow the Nomads to stay as long as they don't cause (much) harm.   They are currently a representative democracy, and still they keep the term "kingdom" as part of the name of their nation.

Covenant

Five small independent nations with a strong link, that ally whenever necessary.

Nomads

Several families and clans that don't belong to any nation and make temporary settlements wherever they can (usually in Golve's territory) without ever developing any sense of belong. Sometimes two or eve three families travel together for one or two generations.

Abilities

Magic

Spells in an old local tongue that has several similarities with the First Language. There are several spells that can be learnt by everyone in the First World. A few are not known by everyone, and others can be used only by some people.   Those standard spells can affect the properties of objects and sometimes, cause minor harm on living beings.
Prodigies
A person who can use one or more spells than the regular people. Those spells are faster, stronger and may affect living beings and the environment. Is not inherited.   They are not many, and only a few of them can use the Forbidden Spell.

History

This world was not kind to humans. Several races find an early end, and the other finally started working together, which in due time was the beginning of the original Kingdom and the nations that would become The Covenant.   One of the first kings forbade the use of those magic spells that not everyone could use, arguing that it was dangerous for those who couldn't and it would threat the whole kingdom stability if someone hold more power than the king.   When the law wasn't enough to stop everyone for using the forbidden magic, the authorities started campaign to make them look evil and blame the magic for it. It had the desired effect, but it also caused fear and hate towards those who have the gift, even if they had never used it. Otherwise decent people would hunt teenagers and children for accidentally using the wrong spell, and the lucky and the successful would be accused of using forbidden magic and promptly executed.   Soon nobody was safe. The actual "prodigies" were resentful and terrified at the same time, and some of them took pleasure in causing discord among the normal people, just to see them destroy each other. other lived a normal life, and several ran to the wild; if they weren't chased and killed, it wasn't really difficult to survive on their own.   Kings didn't lived long, unless they step down in the right time, and each new ruler would change everything, except the prohibition against the unusual spells. Even the prodigy king kept and respected that law, even when he constantly tried to to fight the hate and the fear against his kind.   Meanwhile, the other nations had been forced to adopt the same law, otherwise the kingdom would consider them a threat and attack them. They didn't adopt the hate, though, and despite the occasional quarrel among them, they were doing fine, until the mysterious conquer.   Nobody knows exactly how it happened. There are no records about it from the time when it happened, and the few adults that survive enough to be interviewed, only agree on one thing: the whole thing took them by surprise.   Only a small part lasted of the infrastructure and population of the kingdom, and every other big nation was erased. The smaller ones, lost practically everything, and the only way to recover was supporting each other.   The Kingdom resurfaced on its own, under the leadership of king Golve. It continued to be the only kingdom in the First World, but they no longer took pride on that. Even now, when the kingdom was practically new, the regulation of forbidden magic remained the same for them. For other nations, it was allowed again, because they needed as much abilities as possible and the kingdom wasn't a threat for them anymore.   There is though, a spell that is forbidden for everyone in that world, even now. They believed, one way or another, that the only reason they were closed to be erased, was the traveling spell of their culture, used by Meried to visit every world in Grista. Each culture and individual made the connection by different means, but they all take it very seriously, it became part of their culture.   For years, the use of the spell was punished with death, but only when proved. Currently, there is no official law against it, but they still call it "forbidden spell" and refuse to use it.
