Blessed Condition in Kingsmaker | World Anvil

Blessed

"Here at the arcane university we all know how we came to be. How we became arcanists. Some of you received the gift of magic through your birth, a birthright if you will. And everyone else got their magic by undergoing symbiosis with the arcane wildlife. But there are more ways to become a mage, greater ways. We all start at the beginning, they have access to specialized abilities we can only dream of achieving. That's right! Today's lesson will be about the legendary blessed arcanists. Sit tight, class, what follows is a story of true legends."
Mauze Tung

Magic without any form of traditional symbiosis. Some call it a myth, some treat it as a legend. It is the only way of becoming a sorcerer the Purists would consider taking as it leaves the soul unaltered and intact. Blessed with the faint magic of the divine Veil, a power originating from the primordial Veil. Becoming a blessed sorcerer is a feat of legendary proportions as it requires heroism and the willingness to bet against the odds, besting one of the legendary beasts of Prius in combat and claiming victory over the divine essence that reforms them once their champion perished.

For millenia was this the only way one could become one such mage of extraordinary potential and growth. But recently more of these blessed sorcerers popped up, with their respective legendary beast still roaming free. An unexplainable state the Eternal Counsel itself vowed to look into.

The Eternal Vigor shook his mighty head when he received the message from his scouts. An elf, partially a being of nothing but naked bones, putting the jellified souls of the deceased to rest. His people didn't dare to approach the partially skeletal figure but scouted her out for quite a bit. The singular green orb, which was the eye of the god, flickered as he scrambled through any and all war and peace reports regarding Rubeus. What he found was however alarming. This elf acts like a Reaper, a necromancer, who received their powers through besting the legendary skeletal dragon 'Ye olde Corpse Churner'. But recent reports claim that this mighty beast was still protecting the undead lord to this very day. With it still unalive and kicking, that could only mean one thing. Vigor appeared concerned as he stood up and returned from the citadel to the lighthouse, only to get intercepted by none other than Terminus ... or one of his many clones. The silver robotic jackal stared at the quadrupedal wargod, and stared him down with all his might.

"Our sisters don't have to catch wind of this yet, brother. Leave further observations to me, I will track down what these ... blessed ... see what they know. Subtlety, my dear friend. "

Blessed Champions

Every known kind of magic has its legendary beast, solely associated with the power. For example, the elusive power of 'Slow' can be granted by the slimy gigantic snail monster, called 'Bil-Mod'. These arcane beasts can however only exist for as long as they don't get bested in single combat. If one emerges victorious over the legendary monster will it subjugate itself to its Champion, ceasing to exit to grant the now-blessed warrior its powers. These powers can overwrite already existing magic, imbuing the already present spirit with all the information and powers necessary to master the newfound power in addition to their old. If a purist receives the powers no voice will join them in their mind, but the magic will affect the very brain of them, leaving the soul untainted.

When a Champion dies, the legendary spirit will stop laying dormant in the Veil, reclaim its power and reform anew in its revered form, renewing the cycle.

Acolytes

The following is classified intel. No mortal of Prius has knowledge of these pieces of information.

In the distant past, a relic of the void age, the erased timeline, there was an alternative way of becoming a mage present. The original termonology of being 'blessed' somehow survived the wipe 5000 years ago. As back then people actually received boons from their gods in forms of fractions of their powers, to be used alongside their general magic abilities. For example followers of the baninished goddess of passage, Speclux got granted the specialized ability of mirror magic to engrave portal exits on items to refer towards when opening a portal.

In the past 100 years singular so-called Acolytes have emerged, preaching about the existence of pagan true gods which have granted them extraordinary powers. They are shunned by the Eternal Counsel as fanatical Twinned magicians, who have found other ways to use their given-by-birth powers, trying to start a person cult.

Unlike Champions are Acolytes physically affected by their bestowed abilities. The active presence of the ancient divine is taking a toll and slowly deteriorates the body of the Acolyte into a true representation of a devout follower of the respective god. In Speclux' case for example displaces the presence of the goddess of passage parts of ones body all across the realms and timelines, leaving behind a partially invisible person.
