House Dueras

"Towards the Horizon”

Head: Lord Bartholomew Dueras
Heraldry: The head of a caribou.
House Colors: Yellow and White
Providence: Vance

Structure

House Dueras passes down the title of head of house patrilineally, the firstborn son of each head becoming the new head upon his father's death or retirement. Notably, most of House Dueras' subordinate houses do not consist of old families who have served for generations, opting instead to elevate common merchants that display promise into the ranks of landed nobility.

Public Agenda

House Dueras primarily concerns itself with trade and logistics, working with both House Wright to expand the Kingdoms' burgeoning rail network, and House Gibeault to help transport grain and produce to the northmost provinces and beyond. Though primarily motivated by the desire for personal enrichment, House Dueras still genuinely seek to serve the Kingdoms and its people, and will often coordinate with other houses to send supplies and aid to a struggling settlement to ensure its survival, provided it's not too risky an investment.

Assets

House Dueras is perhaps the most wealthy house in all the Kingdoms. Their province of Vance is not particularly well developed, having only been founded around twenty six years ago. Most of the holdings within their own province are still simple villages dedicated to mining and trapping. The root of House Dueras' power is its vast fleets of trade caravans, outposts, ships, and control and continued investment in the Deuras-Wright Railroad.

History

House Dueras was founded in 576 of the Age of Flame by a prominent merchant lord who primarily traded in rare commodities from modern-day Vance, Norianne, and Briar Glenn. Said merchant managed to woo and marry the sole heiress of a land rich, but monetarily poor family from Grenesse, creating the first Dueran holding in Grenesse. Sixty years later, their son, Bartholomew Dueras worked with a young Fredrick Wright to establish the Deuras-Wright Railroad. His majority stake in the revolutionary advancement in kingdom-wide logistics allowed the young Bartholomew to consolidate the minor mining towns and outposts that dotted the D&W railroad and prompt the Rona to declare the entire region a the newest province, Vance. House Dueras was permitted control of the freshly created province shortly after and has continued to fortify and improve its infrastructure from there, developing the rail network and creating more outposts for caravans to stop and resupply all over the northernmost provinces and beyond.
