Thomas F. Bayard
Thomas F. Bayard was an American politician who served as the twentieth Chancellor of America from 1886 to 1894. Having served previously as Premier of the Senate under Chancellor James A. Garfield, Bayard was the first within the Whig Party to served two terms. He was also the only Chancellor to serve under three kings.
Bayarad was the Chancellor during the tumultuous time between the federal government and the native populations. These led to the Wounded Knee Massacre, of which Bayard joined in condemnation of the native peoples, particulalrly the Sioux Nation.
Bayard oversaw the crisis that rose from the overthrow of Hawaii in1893. Bayard, despite calls from his own party, wished to not annex Hawaii, and instead beseeched King Edward II to send federal troops to restore the Hawaiian monarchy. However, King Edward passed away before a mobilization could be ordered, and was succeeded by his brother, King Henry II. Henry was disinterested in foreign politics, and thus Bayard became sidelined by his own party. Bayard would eventually lose his bid for a third term, ushering in an era of Unionist supremacy in the Chancellory.
