Louis IV

King

Louis IV was King of Holland from 1897 until the overthrow of the monarchy in 1920.

Louis was responsible for joining the Dutch fleet with that of the German Empire against Great Britain during a massive naval arms race starting in 1890 and lasting until 1906. During which, Louis spent an exorbitant amount of Holland's reserves for what was heavily criticized for increasing tensions, though saw the Dutch fleet gain 7 new dreadnought class warships.

When Austria-Hungary and Ukraine backed Bulgaria against Serbia, Holland and Louis were among the powers who protested. When Russia declared war on Austria-Hungary and Ukraine, Holland followed suit, starting the Great War. Holland's main theater of combat was against Spain and Occitania in France, despite French neutrality. Dutch forces eventually captured Paris, using the city as a forward combat center. The Dutch navy also combated the Royal Navy alongside the Kaiserliche Marine from Germany, making the British blockade insufficient.

While the conflict raged, Vladimir Lenin escaped exile and went to France, spreading his ideas to the French, and later Dutch and Occitan, forces. The militaries refused to fight each other, and instead saw the conflict as the result of imperial ambitions among the upper class. Returning soldiers of all ranks returned home to protest rthe war, and desertions began to rise. During the Red Revolution of 1920, King Louis and the Dutch court were overthrown, and Louis placed on trial. Though many wished to see the Dutch royals executed, such as in Occitania, Louis made his case before the masses, and the Dutch rebels allowed him to leave into exile.

Could you not suffer an old man to die in peace? Have my sins been so egregious?King Louis IV

King Louis abdicated and fled into exile from Amsterdam to Germany with many members of his family. He would pass away in 1921. Shortly after, the Dutch People's Republic would unite with France and Occitania, creating the Comintern Republic in 1922.
