Tharik Khazdural
Among the warriors of Karak Dûr, Tharik Khazdural was known as a fighter of unmatched zeal, a battle-brother who never hesitated to stand in defense of his kin. During the fall of Karak Dûr in 17 AV, he fought alongside his siblings, cutting down countless orcs in the desperate effort to hold the line. He was among the last to retreat through the Underway, dragging wounded dwarves to safety even as the darkness of Dûrthar Chasm swallowed their ancestral home. But survival was not victory—Tharik did not see their escape as deliverance, but as shame.
Upon reaching Stormhold, while others licked their wounds and tried to build a future, Tharik could not let the past rest. The loss of Karak Dûr burned within him like a forge left untended, and within a few short years, he gathered a force of like-minded warriors, smiths, and young dwarves eager for vengeance. Though many warned him that it was too soon, that the enemy was still entrenched, Tharik refused to wait. With fewer than a hundred warriors, he led a doomed assault upon Karak Dûr in 21AV, determined to reclaim what had been taken. The battle was over in less than two days—his force was slaughtered almost to the last. Whether he died on the battlefield or was dragged into the darkness remains unknown, but none of his warriors returned.
His name is spoken in both reverence and sorrow among the remnants of the Khazdural Clan. Some call him a hero, a true son of the mountain who refused to bow to fate. Others name him a fool, a reckless war leader who doomed good dwarves to an unnecessary death. Hrothgar Khazdural, though he never speaks of his fallen brother, is known to clutch the handle of his axe a little tighter whenever Tharik’s name is spoken, and Varrik Khazdural, his surviving twin, has never forgiven him for leaving him behind. Tharik’s crusade may have ended in ruin, but the echoes of his doomed charge still haunt the survivors of his people.
