Coral Castle

We were washed up ashore the lakes beaches to the north west. Our boat had gone down during a freak storm, strange things, storms on a lake ? I’ve never seen anything like it. But there we stood on a rocky beach seeing the old coral castle it’s weird shape like a snake protecting an egg curled up. But what we sore can’t be real, a shadow move from its balcony, a shadow of a beast and then a thunderous slam as a wave of red and purple and black pulsed out, it killed Hopper, poor lad was only 16, green horn on our vessel...

Purpose / Function

This Monastery was originally built as a fortress to control the lake and its surrounding area. Built by the Chuul and early Kao Toa while under the enslavement of the ancient Aboleths this became a holy sight to these races, a place where they would make contact with their deified overlords. The castle is spartan in design only boasting one central tower with several flying buttresses sprouting from its column.   In more recent centuries the castle has become a monastery for the dwindling followers of the Aboleths crumbled empire. Once many acolytes would travel to its doors, however, now so few follow the old masters will that only a handful are chosen by the Aboleths to seek its spire and the dark secrets within. It is for all intents and purposes a structure devoted to training agents in ways of death, in ways to manipulate the very essence of life.

Architecture

Smooth tendrils of black coral surround a central tower of pink and purple coral shaped like an elongated heart. The smooth alien carapace appears bland until dosed with spray from the lake where the wet tendrils show red glowing lines angular in pattern, which intersect across its blackened coral.

History

The monastery started as a defensive structure for the ancient Aboleth empire, scholars have deciphered many texts talking of this great coastal spanning empire, and prominent is this ancient structure, a place where the chosen acolytes of Chuul and Koa Tao would gather and wage war on the tribes that dotted the coast. Similar structures have been found at Fallowharbor and the mountains south of Stormwind.
Now it is a mystery to many of the locals who tell tales of strange voices coming from its halls and shadowy figures hidden in its rock. Only those chosen by the remaining Aboleths seek this place, hoping to pass the trails within and learn the secrets long forgotten.
Barovich Woods
The largest single woodland in Stormwind, and the realm of the infamous Lord Strahd von Barovich. It is a forest covered in a permanent layer of fog which houses monstrous creatures of the night, who prey upon the forest's inhabitants. Notable landmarks are the Wizard tower of Karazhan, The blood Oak, Lake R'lyeh to name a few.
