The Citadel of the Rabid Lands

More commonly referred to as "The Citadel" this bustling metropolis designed by dwarves and built by humans is the heart of civilization in the Rabid Lands. The only reason it has been so prosperous and exempt from destruction is because of its close proximity to Silvaria and the aid it recieves from Silvaria's kingdoms. However since it's founding the city has become self-sufficient to the point where it's size and might rivals that of even the kingdoms of Silvaria. In exchange for the initial aid however the Citadel is bound with several tight pacts with the kingdoms of Silvaria and is even an honorary member of the Silver Pact. Although it has little power over the settlements in the Rabid Lands there is an unspoken deal between it and the people of the Rabid Lands that the Citadel will do its best to support and defend the settlements of the land and the people of the land will obey the orders of the Citadel (if it ever gives any, for such a thing has not happened since the day the Citadel was founded when its ruler simply said "Go forth and make these lands a cradle for life."). However given the distance between the settlements and the citadel and the lack of settlements no connections or contracts have been signed for this, but should there be more prospering towns in the land there may be a chance of a full-fledged kingdom growing in the Rabid Lands. Although the Citadel gives few commands the members of the silver pact hold a council every 10 years to decide who should rule the few towns that exist in the rabid-lands. Luckily the rulers are always chosen from the towns native populace.

Demographics

The town consists primarily of humans with about half the population consisting of humans and the remaining half consisting of dwarves, elves, halflings, and other races.

Government

The Citadel is ruled by Yuria, an Aasimar that became popular among the people through her good deeds took the place of the previous Governor as "Queen Yuria". She wields a lot of power however she is watched closely by the other members of the Silver Pact and is often forced to make decisions by them. She has not yet married and has no children however it is currently stated that should she ever have an heir they will be the next ruler, in addition she may choose an heir to the throne that is not her child.

Defences

The city is surrounded by 70ft. tall stone walls and is under constant watch. Eventually the population became so large that secret back-alleys were built to give guard and military members passage through the city without having to push and shove through crowds. Ballistae and archers mount the walls and rumors of untested weapons spread across the populace. Being in a land of monstrosities and countless threats this city has by far the largest military of any kingdom on Yuruk-Tar save Aerodouth.

Industry & Trade

Metals and gemstones are among the most valuable objects in the city however this place is also a center for trade. Any settlement that manages to survive in the Rabid Lands takes their goods here to trade with the rest of the continent.

Infrastructure

Glimmering skyscrapers of iron and bronze mark the innermost circles of the Citadel designed by the brightest dwarves in Yuruk-Tar. The city has a fully functioning sewer system however running water is non-existent. The sewers were designed to accomadate kobold inhabitants and in exchange these scavengers clean the streets of the city at night. The center tower, where Yuria resides, is founded upon a large spring of water that flows from the foundation of the tower along streams and water features throughout the city giving the people fresh water.

Assets

The mines of the citadel produce the vast majority of the cities exports however farms lie within and outside the city. The treasury of the the kingdom lies underground in an undisclosed location.

Guilds and Factions

The Dust-Beard Dwarves run the mining industry in the Citadel. Despite the name the guild consists of a large variety of races. The military of the Citadel is so large that it is divided into three factions. The Living Arrows, a faction of soldiers that have mastered riding flying mounts, primarily hippogriffs, and fly through the sky with spears and bows like living arrows. There is also the Legion, a faction of ground troops specialized in close up combat and are known to take beatings that could kill a man and stand back up. Lastly there are the Swift-Claw Rangers, a faction of archers, rangers, and rogues specialized in more special-op missions. When a large army is not the best option these elite soldiers swiftly sneak under enemy lines and silently deal with the problem.

History

After the signing of the Silver-Pact the kingdoms of Silvaria realized there were swaths of prime land that had yet to be settled. Seeing this potential and yet incapable of taking it themselves because of the high maintenance of their kingdoms decided to invest in building another kingdom that would help settle these dangerous lands and oneday make it possible to have the Silver-Pact span the width of the whole continent.

Architecture

Tall spires give the city its name and although the inner circles of the city are made of metals and polished rather than painted the majority of the city still consists of thatch and wood buildings of traditional medieval architecture.

Geography

This city amongst miles of planes however is only a mile from a small river leading to the River of Origin and a second river 3 miles away leading to the Golden River. Nearly adjacent to the river lies the Silver Forest, comprised of Birch trees and providing the city with its lumber.

Natural Resources

Agriculture makes a large portion of this cities economy but the metals and gemstones from the mines even more so. The Silver Forest brings in enough lumber to make the infrastructure of the town but rarely enough to export or sell.
