Rural Farmer

The world is filled with wondrous and miraculous things. Creatures and phenomena that defy reality and direct the course of history. Far left of that, on the peripheral edges of the adventure and chaos lie humble farmers. Perhaps viewed as the most mundane of all professions, farming and agriculture are the backbone of Allegran society, without which none of the capital cities could survive, let alone thrive the way they do.

Many children are born and raised as farmers in Allegran culture. As youths they learn the details of how to grow particular crops and when they reach adulthood they take over managing the land from their parents. Traditions are an ever-evolving thing, the centuries have not always been kind. If an elder child passes away, or no children are fit to manage the land, sometimes a family will sell a well established farm or hire others to do the manual labor if the owners grow too old or are unable to do the physically demanding aspects of the work.

Farmers of all kinds sell their goods for monetary gains, much of which is usually invested back into producing more crops. It's an annual cycle that never ends but generally provides enough income to support a family, a home near the land they tend, and sometimes even a second home within a city's walls.

Other Benefits

If a farm produces a prestigious amount of food, or a difficult to grow product, they may be recognized by the local minister of agriculture or even the Dannamore and awarded scholarships, special payments, or beneficial contracts that provide special priviledges.

Perception

Purpose

The reason people farm crops is simple; life requires sustenance. The more life there is, all the more is required to maintain it. Until several thousand years ago human folk were practically migratory, but with the establishment of cities and towns, along with their walls and confined spaces, those left outside were tasked with supplying the necessary victuals for urban survival. Presently most farmers grow food for trade and income, as well as for their own survival. It is a vital profession for life as it is known in Allegri.
