The Northern Tribes
After the War of the Frozen Crown the Gir’An (Norsemen) split into three distinct groups. The Northern Tribes is one of these groups.
A nomadic and shamanistic people, the Northern Tribes mostly keep to themselves, only occasionally trading with outsiders. Each tribe numbers from a few dozen to a few thousand people and travels as their Shamans tell them to.
They are constantly in conflict with their more savage and brutal cousins of the true Gir’An, who see the Northern Tribes as weak pacifists.
Demography and Population
The Northern Tribes are sparsely populated and small in size. Tribes are traditionally a few hundred people in size, though some of the larger tribes get into the thousands. These tribes are small, insular, and very deeply connected.
Territories
The Northern Tribes inhabit some of the coldest and most inhospitable space in Kalin. However it's not as bad as it may seem. Due to the southern mountains parts of the frozen expanse are actually quite livable and even show some small amount of seasonal change. Though it is unclear how this happens.
Military
The Northern Tribes have no official military. But members of each tribe will grab their weapons to defend the tribe to the death, and will send tribal members to gatherings to defend the tribes as a cultural whole if threatened.
Religion
The Northern Tribes are a Shamanistic people, and worship the elements and the spirits of the land. Almost none of them worship the Mantle, and Shamans are considered important leaders and are often the actual leaders of tribes.
Foreign Relations
The Northern Tribes are in constant conflict with Gir'An raiders, but are protected somewhat by Holriad, their western neighbors. Unlike the Northern Tribes Holriad is more civilized and modern as far as kingdoms go, and attempts to defend their eastern neighbors.
With the Dwarves of the Mountains the Northern Tribes rarely interact, though when they do its on good terms.
Agriculture & Industry
The Northern Tribes are mostly nomadic, but do have some basic crafting and trade with their western cousins for occasional metal working. Otherwise they hunt, fish, and gather the food and supplies they need.
