Holriad

Like The Northern Tribes the people of Holriad are an offshoot from the War of the Frozen Crown and the Gir’An. Unlike the Northern Tribes however the people of Holriad are royalists and have forged their own northern kingdom into the ice and snow.   Holriad is a mixture of the rough and cold culture of the Norse, and the civilized stylings of law and religion of the south. They are ruled by the Konugur (male) or Konuguri (female) who rules with absolute power.   Attempts by southern nations to impede on Holriad territory have not gone well, in no small part due to their infamous heavily armored bear cavalry

Demography and Population

Despite being a feudal kingdom in practice much of Holriad is sparsely populated due to the frigid locale. Those that live in the region are predominantly Norse, with a few hearty humans as well. Often civilization is found in the Thanedoms, where Thanes rule over a town or village from ice and stone built walls.

Territories

Holriad is a very mountainous region, and is well defended by the various Thanes of Holriad.

Military

Each Thane has warriors and Knights defending their lands, with citizens defending their homeland as well when the need arises. Each Norseman is a fierce warrior unto themselves, but what truly protects Holriad is their knights atop their famed Armored Bear Cavalry.

Technological Level

Holriad is somewhat backwards in terms of technology and magic, mostly relying on Shamanism. That said this has gotten them pretty far.

Religion

The biggest split from their Western and Eastern cousins is Holriad's acceptance of The Mantle. Back in the days of the Balmoth Crusades the crusaders brought the religion to the region, and the people of Holriad are the common day descendants of those who accepted that belief.

Foreign Relations

Holriad is in a constant state of Warfare with their western Gir'An cousins, but has good trading relations with The Northern Tribes, and tries to shield them from the aggression of the Gir'An.

Agriculture & Industry

Holriad grows some of its own food in specialized areas that are aided by Shaman, who play an important role in society for this reason. Shamans in Holriad often serve a purpose that mages would in Southern kingdoms, advising and helping the Thane. Of particular import is their role in food production, as by communing with the spirits Shaman's are responsible for helping crops that would usually die in the harsh conditions grow. This is where Holriad gets most of its food.   For raw materials and additional food Holriad trades with their Dwarven neighbors on occasion, and some daring trade caravans that make it that far north.

Education

Holriad is not known for its education system, and much education comes from Shaman's or local Church members. Sons and Daughters of Thanes could expect a more formal education however.

Legislative Body
The Konugur (Or Konurguri if female) makes the laws of Holriad. They are, in effect, the king or queen of Holriad. The various Thanes (lords) of Holriad owe their fealty to the ruling Konugur, and offer their arms and resources to them. The Konugur is chosen after the last one dies by the Witenagemot (Wit-ena Ga-moot, or Meeting of Wise Men) which is made up of the oldest and wisest thanes of Holriad.
