Ithalin Organization in Kalin | World Anvil

Ithalin

Made up of Elves who escaped the end of the First Age, Ithalin is a small island nation to the South West of mainland Kalin.   Ithalin is a warrior culture, formed by necessity on the inhospitable island during the Fall of the Torva. This culture has only been refined as the Elves of Ithalin have found themselves at war with the Green Dragons who share their chain of islands.   Ithalin also, until recently, had the most powerful navy in the world. Though the Green Dragons have seen to reduce that strength considerably by burning much of the great Ithalin Fleet.   The nation is ruled by the Shogai, a Warrior-King chosen from the top generals and commanders after the last Shogai dies.   Following their involvement in The Tharrisian War Ithalin has been exerting more and more political pressure on Heldir, to the point that Ithalin now enjoys trade preference with the city and the nation has its own enclave in the Fallen City that only its citizens can live in.

Demography and Population

As Ithalin is a military culture most of the jobs and workforce is dedicated to supporting that. Most food is either fish, rice, or imported from the continent. Much of the population is devoted to the constant war with the Green Dragons.

Territories

Ithalin is split into two sides. The Western side holds most of the Ithalin population, whereas the Eastern side is more sparsely populated and the site of most the warfare with The Green Dragons.

Military

Ithalin culture is highly militarized both on land and sea. Despite the loss of a large part of their navy the Ithalin navy still remains one of the most well trained and powerful in the world. On the land the Elves are hardy and dedicated to their war with the Green Dragons, with most citizens serving a few years in the military against the dragons.   Additionally the island nation has The Seekers, a secretive order of spies and agents who keep Ithalin safe from foreign threat. Not much is known about the order, other than that they work in the shadows and are extremely dangerous if angered.

Technological Level

Ithalin is about average in terms of technology and magic.

Religion

Ithalin has no official religion, though much of the island worships The Mantle. Specifically Idiomar.

Foreign Relations

Ithalin holds cool or neutral relations with most of the continent, being as far removed as they are. With the Green Dragons however, they have been in a state of constant warfare for hundreds of years.

Agriculture & Industry

Much of the food of Ithalin is either locally grown rice or fish. Anything else is imported. Most goods needed for nation building are actually imported from abroad.

Education

From the age of 20 (Very young in Elven years) all citizens are trained in the ways of war, combat, dragon anatomy, history, and philosophy. This training takes place in academies throughout the nation and last until the elf is 25. At which point most Ithalin elves, unless having of some excuse, either join the navy, army, or seekers for at least 50 years.
