Roggvir
Calmyria crumbled from The Descent. Untold knowledge was lost in the burning of the Balar. But Roggvir stands strong amidst the calamity of Kal'mortais' icy fury. No tougher place stands in Kal'Araan. -Chancellor Unais Haroti
Demographics
Roggvir is majority human, mostly of Northern Emyrian descent. The most diverse groups in the city are usually those that work with the many temples located throughout the city proper, housing a large population of clergy.
Government
Roggvir is a free city, having never have been conquered or razed by any force. The city is overseen by a single ruler, titled as King, despite the city's control ending at the gates. Historically, the city has had relaxed civic laws and obligations, save for being the only city to tax its churches. Roggvir is historically godless, having existed before The Descent and surviving. Law in Roggvir is deliberately built on secular ideals, to maintain this tradition.
Defences
The city proper is heavily fortified, and many sections of wall still bear massive pieces of dragon's ice, never having been chipped away following The Descent. The single main gate to the city sits beyond a bridge that crosses a massive icy chasm littered with frozen stalagmites, which acts as a moat.
Industry & Trade
Trade requires travel, which in Wyrmhead is lengthy and dangerous. Roggvir generates wealth and sustainability through taxation of the churches that maintain holds there, as well as bringing clergy (along with their coin) to the city on holy pilgrimages.
The city itself produces little, save for the population of cold-weather bison that roam free in the region. These make excellent furs and the meat is considered a delicacy in southern regions due to its scarcity.
Infrastructure
Being far north in Wyrmhead, Roggvir lacks many luxuries in infrastructure that could be found in Stonereach or Valencia. Wells are drawn deep, to avoid water freezing before reaching the surface. Little timber for fire can be found, and as such most heating is provided from coal.
Assets
Roggvir has Kal'Araan's largest collection of religious artifacts, some thousands of years old. Roggvir also protects the only known piece of cultivated land in all of Wyrmhead, having been shielded from Kal'mortais' freezing of the region.
Guilds and Factions
Nearly every deity in Kal'Araan maintains a temple or shrine in Roggvir, acting as a universal holy site for the continent. This brings a large air of religiosity to the historically godless city. Members of all major religions make pilgrimages to the city, if not demanded by the church then for personal fulfillment.
There also exists a relatively recent (201 PD) embassy for the Imperial Commonwealth of Emyr within the city. This is the only form of political relations that the city engages in. The city has also made a point to never engage in hostile conflict outside of its walls, and has never invaded another group.
History
Roggvir is the oldest standing city in Kal'Araan, predating Cormyr. Before The Descent, Kal'mortais froze the entire region surrounding Roggvir, it being the only settlement to survive due to its key placement between mountain ranges. The city has historically represented the world of Kal'Araan before The Descent, as an almost time capsule back to early human history.
Architecture
Most of the architecture of the city proper is ancient, reflecting a time before religious influence and widespread empires. Steep spires and roof-top spikes harken back to a time when dragons filled the skies in Wyrmhead. Nearly no timber is used in construction due to its scarcity and degradation with the harsh environment.
Geography
Roggvir sits between two mountain ranges in Wyrmhead, creating a natural protection from the insane winds and temperatures found throughout the region. The area surrounding the city is mostly stone covered in permafrost, none of it being tillable for agricultre.
