Daltus
In the Shauram Mountain Range, just about halfway between Arrow Pass and Kelna, lies Mount Corich. Halfway up this mountain, you will find the small mining town of Daltus. This town specializes in the extraction and transport of mithral ore.
There is a strong vein of mithral running through the Daltus mine, and folk from all over have come here seeking fortunes and better lives. It's common to see Dwarves and Goblins working side-by-side within the mine, carefully extracting the ore, and there are a few Earth Genasi, too. Outside, Goliaths and Half-Orcs carry the bulky rocks from the mine to the wagons that will venture the steep and winding track that passes for a road.
In the hamlet itself, there is a Tiefling staffing the general store, a Firbolg healer, a Halfling bartender (with a bar that accomodates all sizes), and a Gnome in charge of the supply depot. There are some Humans scattered throughout, but they are in the minority. The settlement runs itself, gathering for occasional meetings only when an issue arises.
The citizens of Daltus do not trade their ore, themselves. Instead, they meet with certain merchants on the Trade Road below, and make their deals there. They buy any supplies needed for the town, and make the precarious trip back. Then the mithral either goes north to Kelna and Den Tharum, or south to Whitich. It is rare that anyone goes down to the Trade Road for anything other than mithral trading.
The work is hard, and there are frequent flares of temper, but for the most part, folks get along well, perhaps disproving the common wisdom that the races cannot work together. Of course, this is only a small little village, and not a kingdom, which undoubtedly makes a difference. Still, people are happy in this odd little community. Their only real fear is the mithral vein giving out. The settlement has existed for generations.
