Letter to Lord Ephraim

Purpose

King Rendorik wrote this confidential letter to Lord Ephraim Ordenza asking him to contact Lord Joachim Parthises for help with Princess Laharika's severe Downsides. In the letter, he requests that Ephraim does not tell his king, King Carzonar Enlim, what he is requesting.

Princess Laharika, King Rendorik's daughter, was known to have strong Downside symptoms. Letter to Lord Ephraim

Lord Ephraim Ordenza,
I would appreciate it if you keep this letter secret from your king. I realize this request may be difficult for you to accomplish, so I will allow you the option to discard my words and forget about them. I simply ask that you do not inform King Carzonar about this.
If you are still reading, I will now tell you the reason for this secrecy. The reason that I am asking you to withhold information from and even outright lie to your rulers should they ask. And that reason is my daughter. Laharika, as you may have heard, is an Aqualing like her mother. She also shares her Downside, but hers are far worse. My daughter is seven years old and has never been exposed to violence and yet she hallucinates blood dripping down the walls and rising in waves until it reaches the ceiling. Her power is incredible, but her Downside is horrifying.
I am writing to you because I have heard that you are friends with a certain Joachim Parthises, who is a scholar of Gifted Powers and Downsides. I ask that you contact him and ask if he would help me. You would then act as our go-between to prevent Carzonar from finding out. You may wonder why I cannot contact Joachim directly or why I do not want Carzonar to know about this. Do you recall the incident with Crystland at my daughter’s birthday? I fear that your rulers may take advantage of Laharika’s weakness and attempt to take over my country.
I do not ask this lightly. My daughter does not realize how dangerous her power and Downside is. If you do not wish to do this, please tell me and I will look elsewhere. I ask only for your discretion as to my request. If Lord Parthises is not willing to fulfill my request, I will do similarly. But please, please consider it. I ask you not as a king or as a ruler but as a father concerned for his child.
