Crystland (KRIHST-land)

The largest country of Narthica, Crystland is the northernmost organized country. Because of its chill weather, Crystland is sparsely populated and the home of most Icers and Frosters in Narthica.
In eternity you shall rest, and your people you shall bless.
— Funeral rites for a king of Crystland

Structure

Crystland is an absolute monarchy, like many countries of the world. It has been led by House Kesterens since its founding, with the oldest male child with Icing or Frosting taking over the position as king once his father passed on. In 1485 AEA, King Efrahm the second changed the law, allowing his eldest child, Princess Icorlyn, to inherit the throne as the first Queen of Crystland.

Culture

Crystland has a very simple culture revolving around Gifteds, especially the Icers and Frosters local to the area. The architecture of Crystland is one of its most popular features, and as such many Crystish become architects or construction builders. Common religions in the kingdom are those that either came with the first residents or emerged due to local phenomena.

History

Merino Lake (Crystland)
Crystland was the third country instated in Narthica and is home to astonishing sights and architectural marvels. Although not the first founded, Crystland's relative sparsity of population and strongly built structures gives it an older feel. Crystland has had a few wars with Rifthaven, Tierhal, and Whirlan, but in recent years its only struggles are with the Wilds. After a disagreement with the king of Tierhal, the royal heirs vanished, the king and queen died suspiciously, and the Eterlanian country of Dalirn took control.

Foreign Relations

Throughout Narthica's history, the biggest countries have had rather tenuous relations with each other. Crystland has had fewer disagreements with the Tierhal and Whirlan, but diligent scholars will recall the Six-Day War when all three kingdoms fought viciously over a piece of territory. Aside from that, Crystland has mostly gotten along with its neighbors, although of course issues commonly arise in the north, an area known as the Wilds.   In recent years, the main countries of Narthica have been more cordial with each other. However, in 2054, King Carzonar of Tierhal threatened war against the rulers of Crystland after an incident regarding the Crown Princess. Crystland then withdrew from any potential alliances, and four years later the king and queen died under suspicious circumstances. After that, the Dalirn who had recently invaded Whirlan took over. Since then, tensions within the country have risen, and a rebel group known as the Cold Restoration has emerged.

Fear not the cold, for it is calm.

Author's Notes

I hope you like the article! I had some glitches right after I published it (like the fact that it was apparently still set to private and I didn't realize it for a couple of days) but it all worked out and I think it looks great!
