The Undersun

The Undersun is a magnificent, naturally occuring, light source in the Underdark city of Kemmera. For many years it was believed to be an object left with the Drow by the Gods and required a ritual to "recharge it". In more recent years it was learnt that it was actually a chemical reaction between the salt in the seawater that filled it each morning and emptied each night with the tides of the ocean above. Despite this the ritual is still performed do to its significance to Drow culture as a time of gathering and celebration.
The Undersun's violet crystal exterior dims the bright light making it easy on those with darkvision but actually quite damaging with long exposure for those without.
