Great Library of Kemmera

The Great Library of Kemmera is a magnificent site to behold the highest structure in Kemmera its entrance is hidden from view in much of the city by the Undersun and stalactites. The narrow stair case along the wall starts a little past  Tideguard Castle and leads up to the very top of the cavern. the entrance to the library is large stone balcony from which most of the city can be seen. THe entrance to the library is carved form the wall of the cavern 5 two story tall 20 feet wide doorway ledinto the library. Each of the door ways i seperrated by a statue of a different Drow queen acting as pillars.

The library is broken down into floor soemtime refered to as rooms of sections. the first and second floors, the two most commonly reffered to as rooms are typically open to the public.

    The First Floor

The front desk is made up of four L shapes desks forming a square with gaps between each large enough for two people to walk through. Eight Drow women, the libraries only living librarians, dress in long black skirts, different coloured busteirs, and white blouses can usually be found here. This first room/floor is two story's high and rectangular. Along the inside edges is a second floor walk way and all the walls are line with book cases carved out of the stone.  Past the desk there are also rows of book cases. All the book cases are made of stone and are over grown with vines and moss.  At the far end of the room is a large pointed archway.

Half way through this room is a reading area made of two rows of tables extending from one side to the other with two perrson wide gaps between them other then the large gap that leds throught the lirbary to the pointed archway.

The pointed archway leads to teh second floor.

  The Second Floor

Passing throught the archwayfills most people with a slight chill. the archway is is immediatly follow by a short dark hall that leads into a large circular room. A set of stairs lead down to floor of the room but from the raised position of the doorway one can see many sets of circular stone shelves with spiral staircase descending down at the center. Like the first floor the bookshelves are over grown with moss and vines, but included amongst books on the shelves, there are also bodies. The bodies are entombed either wrapped in cloth or clothed in ceremonial garb.

The deeper one traverse the library the older an more secreted the knowledge but also the more ghostly presence. Past the second floor there is pressure exuded by the spirits that may simply prevent a person from traveling further. In addition these ghost stand guard, judging those who seek knowledge. Some of the spirits judge based on a persons intent, others simply on their strength. One could be attacked at any time, only allowed to read or study in peace after having defeated enough spirits to be judged adequate for the floor. Under no circumstances will the spirits allow someone to leave with a text from these lower floors.

There are many rumors about what resides at the deepest points of the library, about what knowledge the ancestors of the Umberhall's protect, but in modern history no one has presented evidence of making it to the bottom, if there is even a bottom.

Defenses

The library is guarded by the spirits of every male Umberhall who ever lived.
