Afflicted

The Afflicted are the cursed beings produced by Tenaerul in the wake of the Worldrend. They were once civilians, soldiers, traders, and general inhabitants of the region of Tenaerul who were swept up in the dark fog that cascaded through the area with its all-consuming blight.
Those afflicted later fall under the same name, but are distinct in small ways. They are weaker, and may retain a far stronger sense of self than those initially affected.
The Afflicted live cursed lives. Unable to die and anchored to the world by the corrupt magic pumping through their veins, their sanity and self are burned away to be replaced with the sort of twisted insanity common to the undead. Their physical forms are often vastly changed in abhorrent ways, but still they linger in places once familiar to them - until the living are sensed nearby.
