Brody Brothers Guild

The Brody Brothers Guild is a Pleasure Guild that operates most of its business holdings out of Nightlesbyy Glade, although it also has substantial interests in several mining communities among the dwarves of the Riikbar Mountains.

The Guild specializes in gambling establishments that incorporate taverns into the entire package, as the Broadbasket family of dwarves has substantial interest in their home brews. To some there seems to be a correlation between drinking one of the Brody Brews and eventually losing a substantial amount of money at the gaming tables, although that has never been proven.

The Brody Brothers are:
    • Oskar (elder) - good business mind, master brewer, games of chance tactical mastermind
    • Darrak (younger) - better looking, outgoing, flirty, more likely to chase a skirt than a gold piece
Their clan name is actually Broadbasket, owing to their family penchant for growing and cultivating rather than digging and mining. Oskar and Darrak changed their names when emerging into Guild status to elevate their appearance among the other guild leaders.

The Brody Brothers employ a number of their clansmen as muscle, pit bosses, tavernkeepers, transporters and hammer-runners. The Broadbasket clan extends deep into the underground settlements of Riikbar Mountains, although their exploits are generally frowned upon by the main clan leaders. They also go through a steady chain of goblin and kobold servitors.

The Brody Brothers Guild was second only to the Forbers as the premiere Pleasure Guild in Nightlesbyy Glade for many years, until complacency set in and a number of its assets were either stolen or purchased through underhanded deals by rival guilds. Their most valuable financial moneymaker is surprisingly not the taverns or gambling establishments, but their primary ownership in the Blekendelph Channels, the underwater obstacle courses swam by the enigmatic squid dolphins and wagered on by many patrons, keeps them hanging onto the Guild hierarchy. Exorbitant rent charged to use the training facilities and living areas for the racers provides a tidy income, and their cut of gate fees, concessions and a small percentage of each wager also brings in a hefty, regular sum. Still, a dwindling ledger sheet threatens to push them into considering a merger or takeover. Recent personnel upgrades (mostly cutting out deadweight relatives in important positions and replacing them with competent employees) may be turning things around.

Structure

Oskar and Darrak run the business in equal partnership, although Darrak's involvement is usually only seen as a favor to their mother. Oskar is the primary businessman while Darrak entertains patrons and attends parties, representing the Guild. Several cousins operate as their lieutenants, while more distant relatives and trusted outsiders make up the rest of the Guild's ranks.

Culture

The culture of the Brody Brothers Guild is, primarily, to make money, but in the most fun way possible. To Oskar and Darrak, fun can come in a myriad of ways, from drunken revelry to the company of lovely ladies of any species, or a tight race at the Blekendelph channels or the systematic dismantlement, both physical and financial, of a new  upstart business rival. Fun is the name of the game, and a drink from a Brody Brew is where it starts.

Assets

The Brody Brothers Guild possesses a vast supply of brew-making materials, which they collect and store as well as brew into beer deep in the tunnels under the Riikbar Mountains. They have actually learned to cultivate barley and other grains in underground silos, which collect the moonlight and feed their plants.

The unique properties of moonlight, the underground atmosphere and other unknown qualities imbue the barley and thus their brew with a special quality, one that encourages suggestion. The Brody Brothers have learned to harness the power of the brew they sell in their taverns and use floor monitors to "encourage" unfortunate bets on their more inebriated patrons, thus lightening the unlucky gamblers' purses and filling their own. Most would say the Brody Brew still falls short of Champig Bae for its additional pleasing properties, although most wouldn't say it out loud.
