Terpan

Terpan is a large wooded farming community populated chiefly by firbolgs. They are a member of the Aergrafter Union. By far, their chief agricultural products come from fruit and nut trees.

Great groves of fruit trees can be seen all across firbolg land in Terpan and its outskirts. A temperate climate supports the growing of such fruits as: aurim , apples, oranges, peaches and pears and nuts such as walnuts, golganuts, snapshells and pecans.

Demographics

Almost 100% firbolg, although a small community of Builder Gnomes does persist.

Industry & Trade

Terpan trades heavily through the Aergrafter Union where it ships many tons of fruit and nuts annually. Its primary imports are textiles and mechanical tools.

Infrastructure

Orchards and the tools needed to harvest form the backbone of Terpan society. Great rolling bins and baskets are constantly seen rolling up and down rows and rows of heavily laden trees, collecting whatever happens to be ripe for picking or collecting that day. Processing facilities such as presses, mills, etc process the fruit and nuts into various end products for consumption and trade.

Guilds and Factions

Several different guild exist, based on a number of product types
  1. Aurim Alliance
  2. Apple Guild
  3. Citrus League
  4. Large Nut Growers Association (LNGA)
  5. Small Nut Growers Association (SNGA)
  6. The Pernicious Guild (peaches, pears, plums)
  7. Plantae Guild (Bananas)
And numerous, smaller, more specialized guilds. There is great rivalry between all the guilds, although it is mostly in the spirit of friendly competition and one-upsmanship. Annual competitions pit the guilds against each other in a variety of harvest contests, and due to the varied growing seasons of all their crops, several different harvest festivals are celebrated year round.

Tourism

Occasionally citizens from other settlements throughout the Union will visit and tour the groves and orchards, but for the most part their treasure is a well-deserved secret. Generally tourists are wealthy and their visits often serve a business purpose as well as pleasure.

Wine is occasionally made but cider and juice is more highly valued. Some residents have created a concoction combining hard apple cider and Champig Bae to produce a potent, sweet brew that is more alcoholic and less medicinal, and difficult to get just right, but worth the trouble. Over the years, brewers have attempted to combine Champig Bae with various citrus and other juices, but the results were never satisfactory. Still, tourists enjoy a pint of a local potable  from time to time.

Architecture

Because trees are so highly valued in the firbolg society, their houses, public structures and manufacturing mills are generally made of stone and dirt from the earth. The firbolg have developed a kind of adobe more typically seen in more arid climates, but adapted from specialty mud mixed with water that flows down from the Deezundeer Mountains that, when dried, creates a very strong but pliable brick.

The bricks are often used to build curved, domed houses not unlike igloos of the colder climates.  They are typically larger and more elaborate, and often painted with exotic greens, blues and deep reds and oranges to hide the dirty brown/tan of the mud.

Geography

While there are numerous wooded areas in the vicinity that provide respite, solace and a barrier between Terpan and other nearby settlements, the most obvious geographic features are the acres and acres of apple orchards, orange groves and all other manner of fruit and nut trees planted and cultivated in precise fashion. The ground is fertile and the landscape of the gentle Deezundeer Mountains to the north provide an idyllic backdrop to a very fertile region.

Natural Resources

The trees are considered a sacred natural resource, providing both their livelihood but their life as well as being an enduring symbol of their commitment to and relationship with the land and its bounty.
