Way of Life for the Descendants of Dragons

Streets bustle with glittering scales, gruff voices rumbling over Draconic words and fluidly switching to Common as they laugh and carry on. Here is the homeland of the Dragonkin, their many spindle city on the island of Ullindar, their home built specifically for their colors to shine and mingle. While you may encounter them elsewhere in the world, nowhere is as full of Dragonkin as the Fearsome Maw.
Respect, strength, and service are essential parts of life for the Dragonkin, no matter their color or heritage. Maybe it is the stereotypes that often define them that cause hearts of service, or it could be their strength and their sense of self that requires it, but few choose to intermingle with other races and societies and contribute so highly. It is one of their core beliefs, defined for all Dragonkin at the youngest age.
Some may call the deepest held beliefs of the Dragonkin egotistical, too full of themselves and their abilities. But these beliefs are not all ego, as those that hold them dearest often answer them with daring deeds and acts that cannot so easily be explained with words. Dragonkin are people of action, choosing to demonstrate everything that one could easily boast with words. That is the center of their society, actions and service mean far more than any word ever spoken.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

The Dragonkin race is incredibly diverse as they have the same number of colors that actual Dragons have. These descendants of Dragons display their heritage and tradition proudly, often demonstrating the most well-known of the traits associated with their various colors.
Dragonkin live throughout the world, joining and learning other cultures to become a part of and serve in, but amongst their own kind, their culture becomes one of its own, growing and thriving in the city of the Fearsome Maw. Here, all Dragonkin are equal and away from the stereotypes that sometimes define their lives in other cultures.

Beliefs

All races in Isekai have a set of beliefs that they consider their law. While all Dragonkin have similar beliefs, those that live on Ullindar have a much greater shared culture and belief.

1. Our scales symbolize our past and our pride. We shall never forget who we are nor shall we forsake the strength that comes with it.
2. Mingling with other races may be done freely, care to mind your relations between the categories of color. Metallic shall not strive to become overly close to Chromatic nor Chromatic with Metallic. We shall work for common causes and seek to live peaceably when possible but there shall be no close attachment between us.
3. When living in the lands of other creatures we shall strive to learn their ways, adopt their laws, and become irreplaceable members of their community. All people should see and understand the splendor of Dragonkin if we decide to live among them.
4. Dragonkin do not apologize. If we admit a mistake, then that admittance is shown through resolution and restitution. Never shall we humble ourselves to show our regret through something as weak as speech.

These beliefs drive the Dragonkin and their way of life as they carve out a place for themselves and develop a culture that is wholly their own. One would have to find a Dragonkin far removed from their people and their heritage for them to not share these beliefs.

Family

Family is not necessarily important to the Dragonkin as many will often leave their Elder Race parent in favor of joining another culture or a village of other Dragonkin. The only heritage that matters really to these people is that of their color and what abilities that may give them. In many instances, the only type of family that a Dragonkin may care about is a found family, one made up of friends, comrades, and possibly spouses and children.
These people thrive as individuals and as part of the communities they are a part of. While service is important in their lives, moments of peace and relaxation are also necessary, causing the need for time away from the community to spend with found families.

Property & Ownership

As a prideful people, the idea of ownership is something that Dragonkin believe heavily in. They very much believe that individuals should be able to own things but that also a collective, such as a color of Dragonkin, should be able to own things. This is the case in the Fearsome Maw where a color will own a select district and all buildings within. Dragonkin of a certain color are then able to go to the Federation of the Fearsome Maw and lay claim to unclaimed buildings in their district.

Taboos & Insults

Very little is taboo among Dragonkin as they often embrace their pride and ego, but it is a seemingly unspoken rule that others are not allowed to bad mouth or speak ill of another color in front of a Dragonkin. While they may make fun of each other and their heritage, much as siblings do, others are not allowed the same grace. Those that dare speak ill of one Dragonkin in front of another will feel an ire like never before.
The greatest insult to a Dragonkin is to mistake the color of their scales or to mistake them for a Reptilian.

Dragonkin Culinary Arts

Due to their size and physical prowess, food and all things culinary are integral to the lifestyles of Dragonkin. Their dishes range from elaborate to very simple, often with a great deal of spices or things that could be called comfort foods.

Dragon Buns

Dragon Buns are a sticky sweet delicacy that is often adored by children. Only found in the Fearsome Maw, these buns are made with a mixture of cinnamon, honey, and nutmeg sprinkled over the top of a puff pastry glazed with butter. Bakers shape these treats into the shape of a sleeping Dragon before baking.

Spices

A common trait among Dragonkin is their love for all things spicy or spiced. Importing a variety of spices from across the world, these people prefer to expand their palettes by utilizing different spices in their dishes and often raising the heat level of certain foods. It is said that taste-wise, Dragonkin consume some of the hottest foods found in Isekai.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Every aspect of the lives of Dragonkin is influenced by their heritage and the traits they received from their Dragon ancestors. This has caused these people to think of everyday objects and how they live differently as life is not nearly as simple when your physiology mimics that of Dragons.

Clothing & Textiles

Clothing is important to many cultures for a multitude of reasons, but the Dragonkin see this as nothing more than a necessity that must withstand their lifestyle. Rarely do these people create their own cloth, but instead import goods so that they can create clothing that can withstand hardship.

Imported Material

Simple cloth is not strong enough to withstand constant friction against scales, nor the accidental claw used to put on garments made of such material. Instead, the Dragonkin import a variety of heavy-duty cloths from across Isekai, some magically imbued and others natural, that can withstand constant wear and tear.

Sleeveless Garments

Due to the harsh reality of the life of clothing for Dragonkin, many refuse to have sleeves on any of their clothing as not only are the sleeves the first portion of the garment to wear out, but they can hinder the proper movement of arms and scales. Sleeveless garments are much better for the lifestyles Dragonkin live.

Fearsome Maw

Even those Dragonkin that choose to make their homes in other cities and cultures know about the Fearsome Maw and the camaraderie and safety that the Maw brings for their people. This city is a central location for all Dragonkin where they are not ostracized or ignored based on their color and stereotypes based upon that.

Districts

The Fearsome Maw is broken into 24 districts, each representing a color of Dragonkin. Within each district, one can find homes, businesses, and other buildings dedicated to a specific color of Dragonkin, but that does not mean that other colors are not welcome within a certain district.

Way of Life

The way of life for the people that live in the Fearsome Maw is very different than that of those Dragonkin that live elsewhere. It is common to hear conversations switch between Draconic and Common mid-sentence, challenges of strength happening in the streets, and many other demonstrations of camaraderie that will happen nowhere else in the world.

Descendants of Dragons

Dragonkin are the most memorable of the Descendants of Dragons, although there are others. Whether for good or ill, their relation to the Dragons defines their life and the cultures that surround the places where they live. Stereotypes and facts abound as people see them as little more than Dragons that walk as Humans, but this is far from the case as each of the colors is as varied as the next.

Naming Traditions

Dragonkin have very distinct names that either follow the patterns of the Draconic language or are reminiscent of their Elder Race parent. This can cause other races to question how to correctly pronounce a name or what their heritage truly is. For those not well versed in Draconic, some names can be difficult or even impossible to pronounce.

Relations with Other Races

Dragonkin get along best with Dragonkin of their same heritage, Torterrim, or creatures that do not resemble them in the slightest. They seem to gravitate toward people that have a specialty or a deep-rooted connection to their homeland or ancestry as it is something that they respect and understand.
These people often quarrel with Dragonkin of other colors, as there seems to be a considerable amount of conflict between the Chromatic and Metallic Dragonkin. They also seem to struggle with most Reptilians in particular as there are few similarities between their cultures despite their similar appearance as being scaled humanoids with large claws and teeth.

Religious Observance

The Pantheons of Isekai are of extreme importance to all races and cultures, no matter their differences or difficulties. Each culture worships one of the gods as this belief is what allows them to be judged fairly upon their deaths.
As descendants of Dragons, Dragonkin tend to follow the teachings of Kallex as the father of all Dragons. No matter the color, these people honor their heritage by following Kallex, but may also follow the teachings of another god depending on where they live or what their profession is.
