Tastrum
Tastrum is the ancient city of the Gods. Perhaps the oldest city of men in the world, the city's history is apparent, littered with statues, monuments and famous buildings millennia old; mere centuries are nothing to the "Marbled City". The hub of history within the walls of the city is the Great Library of Tastrum, which is a massive marble building filled to the brim with texts, books, scrolls and histories from eras long ago. It is a destination for any learned person across Iqos, and sees many pilgrimages, though nowhere close to the Eternal House.
Demographics
Elves, Dwarves, Halflings- even strange races like the Giff or the odd Abeil people are all welcome here, and can worship before the Ascended Gods or the Divine Nine. But it is important for all to remember what race every Ascended God has been... there are some races that are not welcome. That will never be welcome. The greedy people of the Kenku... the disgusting walking rats... those races tainted by the ambonations that are the Old Gods, such as the Yuan-ti. Above all, the Orcs are a cruel vermin that are incompatible with the world we strive to create. Whether it takes 50 years or 50,000 years, we will purge this world to purity- Holy Prophet Sancti Peregrinus XVIRegarding race, humans are by the far the most populous in the Marbled City; there is a distinct link between racial hierarchy and the Communion of the Nine, especially within the walls of the Marbled City. However, human-like races are numerous as well- the South-East Quadrant of the city is often referred to as the "Half-Man District", due to a large number of Dwarf, Gnome and Halfling communities in the area. You would be especially hard-pressed to find any races disregarded by the faith anywhere close to the city's walls, but there are a few pockets of races deemed acceptable, such as the Giff or Abeil. The division of the city is clear, however- the people of faith stand a level above the rest. They reside in an area called "The Divine Pantheon", which is practically separate from the rest of the city altogether. Only the holiest and most worthy work or live anywhere close to the Eternal House, and just the Holy Prophet himself may enter The Summit, where the Divine Thrones mark the epicentre of the faith's power.
Government
As the capital of a theocracy, the lines between the organisation of the faith and the government are especially blurred. Each quadrant of the city has a Dean, a person selected from the faith to organise the specific laws and regulations of the quadrant, dependent on the needs and requirements each has. They report to an Archon of the city, which is officially the only city with an Archon, though Taleah in practice does as well.
Districts
The city itself is divided into four quadrants, and though they are not exactly equal, they are regarded as so for administrative purposes. As the city gets closer to the Divine Pantheon North of the city, the wealth and splendour of the city increase, while the appearance of non-humans coincidentally decreases.
- The South-East Quadrant, or the "Half-Man District" is the least splendid of the whole city. Many of the ancient buildings have not been maintained to the same standard as those in other quadrants
- The South-West Quadrant, or the "Residency District" houses the majority of those living inside the city, primarily humans.
- The North-West Quadrant, or the "Quadrant of Books" is the home to the Great Library of Tastrum and the majority of the priesthood in the city.
- The North-East Quadrant is home to the "Marbled Market", an impressive market district which benefits from a close connection through trade with both Taleah and the Northern dwarves.
