Charai (Car-eye)

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Charai are humanoids of varying stature, often derived from their non-Slyvan parentage. The primary related visible elements are the pointed ears and what are called 'The Eyes of Xiar', a secondary set of eyelids under the first that allow for heightened low-light vision.

Genetics and Reproduction

Charai, or Half-Elves, are the offspring of any number of other humanoid species and those of Triaxian descent. How and why this is possible is still mostly poorly understood, though it is thought that most sapient mortal species share a common ancestor so recent that cross-breeding is still possible. These offspring tend to appear as a somewhat beautiful amalgamation of the two parent species, though the Eyes if Xiar and the pointed Sylvan ears are always present in some manner.

Growth Rate & Stages

Despite their hybrid nature, most Charai mature at the same rate as humans, though their non-Sylvan parentage can often affect this time frame. In those instances, it can sometimes take decades before a Charai is fully mature, while other times it takes no time at all.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Eyes of Xiar

A small, thin secondary set of eyelids underneath the primary eyelids that enhance low-light vision, the Eyes of Xiar are more like a second iris for focusing light than eyelids. The external nature and the fact that using them is voluntary has led to the Eyes of Xiar being defined as eyelids, though this is is still often debated.

Sylvan Ears

A trait passed down through the Triaxian offshoots for millennia, the Sylvan ears of a Charai are often though to grant them and other Sylvan species superior hearing, though this is not the case. Small variations in the design of the ears actually provide them with superior hearing in specific circumstances, though this is usually just in the region around their homes.
