Qulyn
Uuuliqualiaquylarian Emenariestyban (a.k.a. Qulyn)
Qulyn is a gentle and shy bookworm whose travels have taken them to Talonstead, in the Past Expanse. When they encounter Silifrey Brightwood and Toryth Sultraad, two interesting humans from the green lands beyond the mountains, they set off on a journey with them that will challenge their perception of the world, the people and forces that govern it, and many of the truths about their own self.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Qulyn has a scholarly but nevertheless sturdy overall build. Despite their humanoid transformation having rendered them small and short, they are still able to walk great distances without becoming excessively fatigued.
Body Features
As a fledgling Earth Dragon, Qulyn has grey-green scales that shimmer with a dull, faintly-metallic luster. The two distinctly bright and shiny features are Qulyn’s bright golden claws and blazing blue eyes.
Facial Features
Qulyn usually has an impish grin on their snout, and often has to squint, as a lifetime of reading old tomes has left them with weak eyesight. Brassy gold feathers cover the top of their head and the back of their neck.
Apparel & Accessories
Qulyn is rarely ever seen without a book in one hand or the other. Their wandering nature also means they usually have a well-worn wooden staff with them. A long coat with many pockets allows them to always carry their journal, some writing implements, and the occasional book or two.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Despite their outward appearance of a reclusive, yet friendly, scholar-type, Qulyn is actually a runaway from their home and family. Back in their home of Xaephenium, Qulyn was on track to be an outstanding scholar from the Academy, but that was interrupted when Qulyn, with an eagerness for learning that was unfortunately lacking in temperance or pragmatism, transformed into humanoid form long before truly having the requisite knowledge to safely do so. As a result, Qulyn is now unable to return to their original form.
Knowing this would be impossible to keep secret and the consequences would be dire, Qulyn fled Xaephenium for Erania, perhaps hoping to find more unconventional solutions to his problem in a land where people only know of dragons from myths and folklore.
Their search has currently taken them as far as Talonstead, in the Past Expanse, where they are currently learning local lore.
Gender Identity
On the whole, Dragons do not have any conventional notions of gender. In human form, Qulyn has found it pleasant to present a generally male appearance (as far as humanoids go), but they still retain a great deal of the dragon’s neutrality and ambivalence on the subject.
Sexuality
Qulyn has occasionally experienced moments of attraction, to dragons, humans, and beastfolk of all genders, but they view such moments more as distractions than fulfilling pursuits.
Education
Qulyn began training in the Academy of Xaephenium from the precociously young age of 70. This quickly turned into a source of conflict for Qulyn, who has a zest for knowledge but doesn’t always know their own limits.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Being accepted into the Academy at the age of 70 was unprecedented when Qulyn was admitted. Despite everything that happened since, Qulyn looks back on this not without a degree of personal pride.
Failures & Embarrassments
Qulyn still hasn’t completely lived down the personal mortification of changing into a humanoid form and being unable to change back.
Intellectual Characteristics
Qulyn has an extremely inquisitive nature, to the point where it has even gotten them into trouble on more than one occasion. Despite this, Qulyn is surprisingly good at tempering their scholastic knowledge with real-world application and practicality.
Morality & Philosophy
Qulyn values transparency, and is always dismayed when they encounter the suppression of secrets, whether that be scholastic knowledge, political intrigue, or even interpersonal intercourse.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Qulyn is in Erania only partly because of running away from the Academy. They also mingle with the denizens of Erania in order to hopefully learn more knowledge of Dragons that the other Dragons are unwilling to teach them. They hope, counter-intuitively perhaps, that looking for answers in a place where Dragons are viewed as mythical will be more successful than seeking answers in a place where Dragons are taken for granted and choked by dogma.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Qulyn is well-versed enough in most kinds of local lore and custom that they are generally able to talk their way out of any troublesome situation. On the other hand, much of this skill is a result of necessary practice, as they just as frequently have talked their way into those troublesome situations in the first place, due to not knowing when to keep silent.
Likes & Dislikes
Qulyn is easily distracted by pears, and any meal involving them is a sure-fire way to make friends with Qulyn. Their thirst for knowledge is something they consider practical, but it is also a desire for knowledge for its own sake.
Conversely, Qulyn cannot abide secrets of any kind, whether they be secrets of friends kept from each other, mysteries of religion kept out of the hands of laity, or political intrigue that takes place behind the backs of everyday citizens.
Virtues & Personality perks
Despite their shyness and overall introversion, Qulyn is very approachable and easy to befriend, and they are fiercely loyal to the people they do consider to be friends. Qulyn is slow to temper, but can be fearsome to behold if the people they care about are threatened.
Vices & Personality flaws
Qulyn has a general intemperance to them, often rushing into situations without thinking, which often leads to trouble for them and their friends. Because of Qulyn’s bent for transparency, they are unintentionally tactless on numerous occasions.
Social
Social Aptitude
Qulyn usually tries to be polite, and they are very shy and softspoken.
