Frey

Silifrey Brightwood (a.k.a. Frey)

Frey is the daughter of the miller in the sheltered border town of Kara's Vale.  When a stranger named Valcan Lightarm appears with a a mysterious Artifact, seeking shelter, she offers it to him, not knowing that by doing so, she is taking her first steps on an adventure that will span the width and breadth of Erania and lands beyond.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Working in the mill has given Frey physical strength greater than one might expect for a musician.

Body Features

Frey is physically well built, but not in a particularly visible athletic or muscular sense.

Facial Features

Frey has a strong jawline, and uniquely expressive eybrows.  She also tends to sport a naturally frowning expression that often causes people to think she is angry or brooding when she is not. In addition, she has a habit of raising one eyebrow in query, confusion, or disbelief.

Physical quirks

Often, when Frey is pensive or anxious, she will unconsciously drum her hips with her hands.  When she’s concentrating strongly, she sometimes develops a scowling expression that leads people to misread her mood.

Special abilities

Frey has a working but rustic knowledge of Windcraft, having grown up in a village of people who value its relation to nature, but don’t fully understand the scope of its application.

Apparel & Accessories

An accessory of note is Frey’s braided metal circlet.  It was given to her by Qulyn, and she has rarely been seen without it since.

Specialized Equipment

Frey’s most prized possession is her musical instrument: a Windcraft-imbued artifact that produces a variety of sounds.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Frey was born and raised in the little village of Kara’s Vale, on the border of Vistridale and Strikkonia.  Her father, the village miller, was also born and raised in Kara’s Vale, as were his parents and grandparents.  Frey’s mother, on the other hand, did not grow up in the village, and although she has lived there for several years and is the village’s baker, she is still thought of as something of an outlander.   From a young age, Frey has always enjoyed singing and music, and would often engage in it from very early on.  Because her father and the village innkeeper have always been friends, she grew up used to spending many an idle moment in the inn.  Perhaps as a natural result, she came to be a source of musical entertainment for the inn’s patrons when she was not helping her father out at the mill.

Gender Identity

Female

Sexuality

Sex does not interest Frey.

Education

As the child of two important providers for the village, Frey’s education has always been more rooted in practice and application than book-learning.  Like many in her village, she had an enthusiasm for learning how to Shape the Winds.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Frey’s persistence in singing and playing music has led her to notable popularity among the village, to the point where she would even spend time teaching some of the village children how to sing, which is a source of personal pride for her.

Failures & Embarrassments

One time, not too many years ago, a childhood friend of hers was caught stealing from a travelling merchant convoy.  Strikkonian soldiers came to the village looking for him, and he sought sanctuary in the mill, but Frey refused to harbor him, fearing the consequences that might follow for the village if he were caught there.   He was inevitably captured by the soldiers and taken away to the capital.  Frey never saw him again, and she has never forgiven herself for allowing it to happen.

Intellectual Characteristics

Frey tends to be uncreative but efficient in approaching any given situation.

Morality & Philosophy

Frey has something of a “live and let live” approach when it comes to others’ choices, but she has a fairly strict code of personal morality to which she adheres rigidly.  Over the course of her journey, however, she begins to see that sometimes those personal rules and standards have to be bent in order to achieve a greater goal.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Frey is a very practical person, and in most cases, her motivation can be summed up as “somebody has to do it; it might as well be me.”  This possibly stems from the disastrous and personally tragic consequences of the time when Strikkonian soldiers took her friend away, when she could have taken action but did not.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Frey has a seemingly natural talent for organization and helping people to push past what they perceive to be their limits.  This is most apparent in her musicianship, but it can also be seen in the efficiency with which she and her father run the village mill, and even in the no-nonsense approach she takes when Windcraft is required to accomplish a task.

Virtues & Personality perks

In addition to her organizational skills and efficiency, Frey also has determination, and doesn’t like to start something she can’t finish.

Vices & Personality flaws

Although Frey is practical and pragmatic in day-to-day routines, she is unimaginative and unambitious in any larger sense of the world, accepting the status quo even if things could be better.
