Nchukufi Castle

Built by the Dari royal family, Nchukufi Castle - also known as the Castle of Sea and Sky - was completed in 3267, under the reign of Pwor Dari I. The castle is the center of Hotampen. It has seen over a millennia of nobles, emperors, and guardsmen. Now it is the central hall of government for the Hotampen Council. The Councillors all have their offices in the castle, and it is where the city's laws are kept.

Purpose / Function

The castle was originally built for the housing and defense of the royal Dari line, when the country was still a kingdom rather than an empire. It remained central to the imperial family for over a millennia even when it was no longer their primary residence.

Alterations

When the Dari Empire initially fell, the castle was raided by both locals and invaders. Much of its original decoration was lost. What is there now was ordered by the Council since its inception. No longer the residence of a royal family, it is now the central governmental building of Hotampen. Bedrooms have been converted into offices and records rooms. What once was the great hall still is important, but it is used more for Council meetings and public declarations than for banquets.

Architecture

The castle is a stone structure built in a mostly utilitarian style, so from the outside it is not particularly beautiful. The interior passageways are simple and quite cramped for a human, as they were built with hafolk in mind. The inside has been decorated with 'modern' art and engravings in a largely geometric style.

Tourism

Since the castle is used for government purposes now, it is not much of a tourist destination. Some go to public announcements to see the interior, but that is generally more work than it is worth.
