Hotampen

An ancient city and once capitol of the Dari empire. Though the Dari empire fell in 4301, Hotampen remains a vastly important trade hub and city-state. It is one of the most diverse places in the world. The city name means "City of the Holy Ship," because it was founded by a hafolk priest who arrived from the western continent in 2593. For much of its history it was a small fishing village called Tirampen, but after the fall of the Habrian empire it became a major city and the name was changed.   The primary human name for the city is Helstei Nyat. The primary dwarven name for the city is Dari Tsukin.

History

Founded by hafolk settlers in 2593, Hotampen was a very small fishing colony for centuries. They occasionally had fights with their human neighbors, but were never wiped out. The town became something of a trading hub during the Magis era, but didn't really come into its own until the 3000s. At this point hundreds of hafolk had migrated to the eastern continent, largely around the coasts. Hotampen at this point was ruled by a king whose surname was Dari. Dari's kingdom slowly expanded across the coasts and sea until it became an Empire in the 3400s. The Dari Empire ruled by its trade and sea power until a variety of factors caused it to slowly crumble. By 4301 the once-flourishing Empire had completely broken apart. Still, Hotampen itself remained a powerful city-state and trading hub.

Tourism

Over its long history, Hotampen has built some incredible monuments. The Temple District, especially the Temple to Lum, is one of the most impressive in the world. There is also the Saltside Market, where goods from all over the world can be found. Scholars flock to the Grand College.
