Democratic Foundings

Following the sealing of the Gashiinki portal and the soon after disbanding of martial law which was held on Chusett during the Great War, Chusett established its own local government. Resembling the structure of Felshi's government, Chusett's initial political offices would be 12 council positions and a mayor, who would act as town meeting host and tie-breaker, if needed. The positions would be filled by popular vote of "legal voters", persons who owned an interest in the city; either land or business.

The Working Man's Government...

As Chusett grew from large town to a full city, the restriction of voting began to prevent the vast majority of residents from voting. The council at the time was hesitant to remove the traditional process, but political pressure from growing protests and worker strike forced their hand. In 1918, a compromise was reached, and all residents who paid taxes in Chusett were allowed to vote, whether or not they owned an interest in the city. The workers building the city expansion were now able to overwhelmingly out-vote business owners, leading to the election of those who would support labor rights.

Bought and Paid For

At least that is what voters were led to believe. While many laws were written to protect labourers, their full potential was never realized. Many members of the council have their campaigns and efforts funded by rich businessmen or arcusa. The money is given in return for favors, usually taking the form of votes for or against new laws. Not every seat has been filled with dirty cash however; a few members managed to maintain their dignity and won through their own popularity, making friends with smaller business-owners and the common man. Unfortunately this only makes them a target.

Current Seats

After the first ever election, four seats were to be voted on every year, giving councilmembers three years to serve and ensuring smooth transition. The seats are numbered, first through twelfth, and rotate elections in numerical order.

First Seat Anthony Dalton

human, age 64

As a highly educated human, Councilman Dalton was the first non-Chusett native to be elected into the city council. Contrary to his bland appearance, Dalton is surprisingly charismatic, and won his election by a landslide.

Second Seat Sophie Carney

high elf, age 119

Councilwoman Carney currently has held her seat the longest of current members, a total of 17 years. She found her start in politics as a young elf protesting in the late 1910's and early 1920's. She began her run for office on her hundredth birthday.

Third Seat Amano Momoru

dragonborn, age 32

Sometimes the loudest person in the room is the one being listened to; this was true for Councilman Amano. His passionate and loud speeches drew in large crowds where he pledged to "solve the organized crime problem plaguing the city".

Fourth Seat Levi Barrett

human, age 31

Councilman Barrett has famously garnered the support of Arlo Cian O'Donoghue, the mysterious philanthropist. O'Donoghue's reputation likely gave Barrett his edge in the election, even without a strong platform.

Fifth Seat Sonoda Risako

half elf, age 45

Of the many members suspected of accepting money from large companies, Councilwoman Sonoda is the go-to. She is currently under investigation for paying for information from her opponents campaign.

Sixth Seat Theo Walsh

human, age 53

Egotistical, greedy, and conceited; three words often used to describe Councilman Walsh. Many would also claim he's the best seat to have ever served, despite his negative reputation as a ruthless businessman.

Seventh Seat Sean O'Hagan

halfling, age 89

Councilman O'Hagan has held his seat for 9 years, but is looking to retire from the political scene after the loss of his husband, Ichiyo, in a traffic accident. O'Hagan will be taking over the restaurant and bar, Red Moon, Ichiyo had run for 13 years.

Eighth Seat Sasaki Miki

human, age 68

There have been few seats that have pressed as hard for businesses as Councilwoman Sasaki. She continuously pushes back against new labor laws that she believes would disincentivize businesses from operating in Chusett.

Ninth Seat Miiko O'Horan

high elf, age 419

One of the largest proponents of tax increases, Councilwoman O'Horan has garnered a negative reputation from businesses and laborers alike. Her pushes for larger government services are hindered by the actions of agencies like ASH.

Tenth Seat Kuga Hisanobu

half-orc, age 34

An ex-arcusa running for office would normally have been written off by most, but Councilman Kuga had only been a member for a short time and his background was mostly overlooked when he promised laws for better treatment of workers.

Eleventh Seat Billy Yamada

dragonborn, age 46

Councilman Yamada has served two terms and has many supporters thanks to his efforts in reducing crime in Chusett. He has already publicly decided to step down from the council in the next election favor of running for mayor.

Twelfth Seat Mashimo Kane

human, age 67

Usually, councilmembers getting in fights is viewed negatively by the public. With Councilman Mashimo, an ex-police officer, however, it has only boosted his reputation, as he has fended of two seperate attempted assassinations.
