Lhingril Elrim: Stalkers of the Shadows

My people live in complete darkness. It is to our comfort and liking. Our sight in the black is perfect, details and colors as clear to us as they are to one with daylight vision. Any light brighter than a candle can cause us great pain.
For the most part, we don't leave our region very often. The most adventurous will go out, usually members of the Black Recluses, and occasionally our merchants. In other cities in the other regions, our shops tend to only be open at night, which the shop patrons don't mind, willingly making adjustments to their schedules to get what they need to allow my people to be active. When we need to wander in the daylight, mostly the Black Recluses, a special mask has been crafted to block out all sunlight. It robs us of all sight but those who wear them adapt to the lack of sight.   We're a relatively quiet people, we prefer keeping to ourselves, but we will help our fellows throughout our kingdom. The other four tribes are good to us, the Hacende family good monarchs, we will come out of the shadows to defend them as well. We are different but we are one.   We are those who dwell in darkness. We are the Stalkers of the Shadows. We are the Lhingril Elrim.

    Family names

Túrgúl: the most notable name. They have ruled the region since before the first age.

    Culture

    Average technological level

Can craft prosthetics out of Steelwood. Have a decent irrigation and sewer system.

    Common Dress code

For the most part, their dress is simple. Due to the dangerous forest around them, most don't wear dresses or long cloaks. Things tend to catch on branches and the thick undergrowth. Warm, fur lined pants are a staple in winter.   Women do wear dresses to formal occasions and they're usually a bit revealing. They like catching their partners' eye.

    Birth & Baptismal Rites

Shortly after birth, most are given a blessing from one of Priests or Priestess of Death. It is meant to guard them from harm and the evil that can live in the shadows, which surrounds them.

    Common Taboos

They revere spiders, bats, ferrets, snakes and owls. Their principal goddess, Díneniel, keeps them as pets and informants. Killing one is considered being begged to be cursed, except for the snakes. It's well known that their bite can be lethal, especially around children, so the death of one is understandable.   Also, the death of a child at the hands of one of the assassins is an act that can result in that assassin being imprisoned, thrown off their team or even executed if investigation reveals the death could have been prevented.

    Historical figures

Luthari Norn, Prince Consort of Queen Gilglyss Hacende

    Ideals

    Beauty Ideals

For women; a taller, strong frame. Sturdy but graceful.   For men: shorter, leaner frames. Quick and agile.

    Gender Ideals

Women tend to fall into leadership and governmental rolls. They consist of a large portion of the army and while active mothers, once a child is weaned, the father does most of the childcare. Men do a lot of home care, childcare and cooking. While women handle things in the open, men take care of behind the scenes, including acting as members of the Black Recluses, the Lhingril's elite group of spies and assassins.

    Courtship Ideals

Women tend to make the first move in relationships. Men will openly show interest in and flirt with the women but usually wait for their counterparts to ask them out. It's also a common thing for the men to sneak into the backyard or back balcony of their woman's home and leave a small gift without anyone noticing. Results are mixed but no one dies.
