Gwanath Aras (gwenaith erais)

It wanders nearer. It always does on moonless, starless nights. That's it's favorite time. Their kinds like the dark, little ones. It makes it so much easier to hunt, to satisfy their desires.    The Lhingril? Don't fret. The Lhingril's lands are filled with frightening things that would eat the Gwanath Aras. Yes, they do have some risk though, all the tribes do.   They want for everything and are never satisfied. Corrupted and taken, driven to insanity by excess.   No, it's not wrong to want things. It's perfectly normal. The issue is when it is taken to excess, to extremes, to the point where it no longer matters how they get what they want, just that they have it. Foods, drinks, physical pleasures, whatever they might want, they'll take. Satisfy themselves.   They were once our guardians. They were once our Druids. It takes a special person to train as a Druid. Selfless. A desire to serve others. A devotion to their tribes. To turn one is hard, but everyone has a point where they'll break down and act on a desire. Everyone reaches a point where they just want something for themselves. You can't just give and never receive. It takes its toll.    They wander near, still wanting. Those who felt unsatisfied before. Some were Druids, others just people. All fell prey to their own desire.

Historical Basis

It is very deeply rooted in history. They actually exist to this day. Myths and stories abound about their realities and whether or not some roam nearby. The evidence of when they're near is quite obvious but the effects, how they warp people to their side and make them into one.   At least, stories will have it that they still exist. The reality is no one's seen one in almost a thousand years. The last known one was killed by Lord Sadron. Now, only the horror stories and myths exist. It almost seems that they exist to frigthen children from wandering off at night, where the actually wild animals might get ahold of them.

Cultural Reception

The Eledhrim of all five tribes tremble at the thought of them. Even though it has been so long since the last one was spotted, those old enough to remember shake when the stories are told. The younger listen to the stories, are made nervous but they've never experienced the fear. It's just myth to them, almost not real.

In Art

There are a number of illustrations in books on monsters and demons of them. Skin stretched thin over skeleton. sunken eyes, warped animal-like features, a lot of the time they have antlers or horns. Cannibalism is often depicted in the art. It's enough to give a full-grown adult nightmares but the 'myths' have been recorded as warnings for the future generations.
