Halldôr (hail-dyr)

The dark of the forest is comfort to all Lhingril. This is our home, our lands. The dark is to us what the sun is to the other four tribes. We are thankful for the thick forest and black days. It raises us, protects us, shelters us. The shadows will be forever our home. While we may wander afar, into lands where there is light, we will always return to the dark forest.
  • Moria Túrgúll, first born of Lord Nimtolien
  • Geography

Dence, dark forest filled crisscrossed with streams and small rivers. Difficult terrain is a vast understatement. With little light as one enters the forest edge which quickly dissipates the further in you go. Within minutes there's no light. The shadows play tricks on the eyes, they seem to move about despite the black. Those tricks of the eye can cause one to get injured by tripping, falling or wandering into wild animals or other hazards like cliffs and rivers.

    Ecosystem

Everything, from the smallest insects to the largest carnivore are either bioluminescent with the ability to see perfectly in the complete darkness or totally blind with heightened senses that compensate for the lack of sight.

    Ecosystem Cycles

It gets frightfully cold in the winter; snow does reach the forest floor, but they are protected from the winter winds by the trees and mountain range. In the spring the flowering plants bloom, glowing softly in the dark.   Once every thousand years, the flower Din Real will bloom but only during a hurricane.

    Fauna & Flora

Nearly every species of flowering plant blossoms with glowing petals. The beautiful plant life is alluring to all Eledrhim and the Lhingril are very proud of their glowing blossoms.   There is a type of deer in the forest, the Halldôr deer with glowing antlers and delicious meat. It's also carnivorous.

    Natural Resources

The Halldôr deer provides a lot of meat for the Lhingril population. There are Lhingril who tend to swaths of lands, monitoring the heard populations so that when hunters come out, they can find plenty of meat. The antlers also provide craftsmen with pieces to turn into jewelry pieces.

    History

No one is entirely certain why Halldôr is cast in an eternal night. The blackness is absolute. There is a hint to the west as to why the lands are dark. The massive mountain range might not be a mountain. The most prevalent theory is that it is actually the skeletal remains of a Shadow Drakion; the massive, ancient ancestors of the current Shadow Drakie. If this theory holds true, then the death of something with such a powerful connection to the dark and shadows, the magic that would have bled into the land could have cast the forest in eternal night.   The region was inhabited by the Lhingril Eledhrim for longer than any can remember. A proper settlement was established in the first recorded age, over five hundred thousand years ago. The Turgul family has ruled ever since.
The rarest of all flowers, Din Real, is found throughout the region. A powerful plant, every part of it can be used in magical remedies that can cure curses, poisons, lethal wounds, demonic possession and many other magical ailments.   The gorgeous plant is small, growing from a single stem and blooming a large, lily-shaped flower that is white along the edges and blue in the center. Like most fauna in the region, it emits a soft light.
