Mordisi Ruins

"I don't know what is up with the walls and doors in that place. I swear to Nieba, that I would go to walk into one room and end up in a hallway somewhere else, or I would be walking down a straight hallway and end up back in the room I just stepped out of. I think the walls moved and the doorways sent you places. I fucked off out of there as soon as I found the exit. For Nieba's sake, don't go in the ruins."
— Hagnon Jasari, An Adventurer

Overview

The ruins of Mordisi are a mystery to everyone. They were here before the city of Mordisi  was settled and no one knows what they are or what they were used for. Everyone wonders, but nobody really knows. Adventurers have been researching and exploring the ruins for ages, but nothing has been found to tell the tales of the ancients. Some adventurers have been into the ruins and come by with small pieces of pottery or technology. Some adventures have been into the ruins and never been heard from again. There are maps that can be bought from most of the local merchants for part of the ruins, the parts that have been most explored, but no one has explored the whole area.

Purpose / Function

  • To make young boys dare one another to spend a night in the ruins so that they can feel like men.
  • To make adventurers hope for lots of gold and adventure.
  • To make poor fools hope for the find of a lifetime.

Architecture

Most of the above ground architecture is falling down, but there used to be a tower of some kind as there are still a set of stairs outside one of the buildings. However, the most interesting feature about the ruins is the catacombs below. There are rooms and halls that twist and turn every which way. No one has been able to map the whole area. Some adventurers that have come back swear that the walls move and the doors transport you to other areas of the catacombs. There have been rumors that some people have disappeared in the ruins only to come back years later claiming they had only been down there a few days.

History

No one knows the history of the ruins as it was a ruin before Mordisi was even thought of as a city.

Tourism

Adventurers, sorcerers, and scientists come by on a regular basis to see what the ruins are all about. Some come back to tell tales about what happens, some don't.
