The Purgatory Steps

"Did the humans really name a whole dimension after The Steps? Really? I knew Purgatory, and he would honestly piss himself laughing if he knew."
Sitting at one of the most popular cross roads between the two largest Hellionic and Choiric settlements, the Purgatory Steps is the name of a naturally formed stair-like rockface that sits alongside the cross roads. It is a popular landmark for direction-giving thanks to the myriad of stories, legends, and general silly stories behind the feature.

Purpose / Function

The Stairs have no real purpose beyond being a landmark, as they lead to nowhere except for the top of the rock face they're located on.

Alterations

Over time, the stairs themselves have eroded away somewhat, as well as people defacing it once the name started spreading.

Architecture

Completely and naturally eroded out of the landscapes red stone. The stone itself is almost like limestone, although much denser, and this gives the steps a grainy appearance.

History

The Purgatory Steps were so named after a rather mischievous Hellionic named Purgatory. He discovered the landmark while travelling to visit a Choiric friend of his, and made up stories about a phantom set of stairs carved into the cliff once he arrived. His stories caught on and became local legend, and from there on they spread until the stairs became a common landmark that you would use to give directions between the two settlements.   It has long been believed that humanity believes Purgatory to be a neutral afterlife between heaven and hell, from misinformation from demons about what Purgatory actually is. Most demons who know the context of this find it hilarious that such a useless landmark has been interpreted into a major part of a human religion.
