Session 3 - Beastworld in Imaginaerium | World Anvil

Session 3 - Beastworld

Phase 1   A medieval world, where the giant beasts awoken and destroyed most of the life.   The world has stayed in this medieval state of technology for hundreds of years, as there are so few people left that rebuilding society while avoiding the giant beasts is very difficult. Which addresses the trope of so many medieval fantasy worlds that never advance in technology   the Beast Prince’s kidnapping is what had started the infinite loop of medieval technology entrapment! bonus points say that the prince was stolen by technologically advanced knights, that’s why the beasts hate tech so much!   There are no gods, not anymore - the beasts have devoured them all and their broken corpses are major landmarks in the world.   The knights kidnapped the Prince to prevent the prophecy that told about destruction of their world come true, not knowing that this would be the thing that would start its end.   The prophecy began as a rumour spread by the Prince. He had to find a way to manipulate the knights into instigating the destruction he wanted, to make sure they didn't stop it before his plans got too far.   god corpses aren’t just fleshy and boney cliffs and crevices but they’re also unnervingly steampunk-esque, and one is rumored to hold the Prince within, a prison of his own making   Magic is based in consuming the blood of the beasts that tromp all over the world, making it incredibly powerful - and rare   There are tribes of people who started worshiping the beasts and hunting anyone who tries to push the technology forward.   It's also rumoured that a very small number of beasts do their best to hide and otherwise protect tiny tribes of humans from other beasts who would have them destroyed.   To most people, this story is a cautionary bedtime story told in the hopes that their children will think twice about running off alone or playing with things they don't know about... but some ~conspiracy theorists~ people believe that the children in the story have grown up to become the only humans with the potential to bring down the Beasts. Others believe these children are the ones that will destroy what's left of human civilisation   There is a clan of half-beast warriors, a good few of them being scientists or those exposed to the beasts’ blood at a young age, and not one is exactly like the other. Some believe that they are simply a fairytale, however.       The Prince’s blood is said to give the most powerful magic, but no one knows for sure, as one of the knights has gotten quite protective over the Prince, and he’s not backing down anytime soon   With the reliance on blood, magic is mainly in various alchemical types - sometimes very elaborate pseudo-scientific alchemical rituals. At least one human has made herself into a Beast through it   There is a story of three children who fell into a pool of beast blood at a very young age. It changed them.     P2   Military Conflict: A tribe of the beast-worshipers discovered that another tribe, one hiding in the shadow of the beast, discovered a new way of transportation and decided to attack them. Their forces were thwarted before they could kill the inventor.   Character: The inventor of this method of transportation. A descendant of one of the technologically-advanced knights who kidnapped the Prince, she dedicates her life to researching and adding to the semi-coherent notes passed down by her ancestors with the goal of understanding how the Prince's prison works, before any comprehension of its technology is lost entirely   Orginization: The Vivori, an ancient clan of immortal Half-Beasts, it is believed that one of the Knights had turned into one of them.   Vehicle: Said transportation method is a small-ish, few people open-topped vehicle which moved along the divine-bloodsplatter that has dried/burnt into the ground. Skilled pilots can 'skip' between splatters/streaks/veins.   Settlement: Ruins of the monastery, changed into a small village, where Vivori live. It's hidden in the remains of one of the old gods. It's the main goal of the journey of the tribe with the inventor.   Location: The Blackroad, named for the streaks of blood left by a beast. It carved this path into the landscape on its failed struggle towards a safe refuge. This is the route the tribe hope leads to the monastery - they believe the remains of an old god which hide the Vivori's village is the body of the beast which created the Blackoad.   Species: Emperor Beast, the highest rank of beast, capable of many kinds of magic and shapeshifting, it is was is believed to be the Prince’s and his father’s species.   Profession: Blood Alchemist. Person who creates alchemical mixtures based on the blood of the beasts. Their research of blood led them to the discovery of treatment that can slow down (but not stop) the Blood-Sot.   Technology: a mechanism strapped around the chest of someone afflicted by Blood-Sot, which must be worn at all times. It includes a needle which is pressed into the heart of the wearer (after trial and error, the process is generally safe, but not especially fun...) The actual machinery pumps mixtures created by Blood Alchemists into the afflicted person's heart, preventing the blood circulating their body from being affected by Blood-Sot as quickly.   Document: Alchemist’s Scrolls, ancient scrolls that detail the functions of blood alchemy and the Sot Mechanism, almost burnt to a crisp by Beasts but saved by one of the Knights   Language: Alchemists use a special, secret language that incoporate bits of lost languages (tech specifications and math that have lost its meaning to them) with slang   Item: Ink of the Last Ones. To protect the content of the Alchemist's Scrolls, its author (besides writing it in the Alchemist Language), created a special ink that is only visible to humans. Sometimes that ink is still used to lead the people to the places safe from the beasts and beast-worshipers.   Item: Wayfarer's Marks. Travellers on the Blackroad leave tiny messages written in the Ink of the Last Ones in innocuous places for other travellers, such as on a small boulder on the side of the road, or scratched in the dust shadowed by a patch of scrub. The hope is that these markings are simply too small for many beasts to notice unless they know where to look. They're often left to direct travellers to water or a concealed place to rest, or simply to mark the point of a friend's passing.
