History of the Eastern Realms of Ilura

The Eastern Realms in Ilura have a rich history. From foundings of institutes and kingdoms, to destructive wars and plagues, many of them make a part of history.   The Eastern Realms follow the Calendar of Harptoss, an older calendar reimplemented after the dissolution of the Frosian Empire at the end of the Third Age.

Age of Darkness

E1Y1 -> E1Y3956

The Age of Darkness was a period after the fall of the mythical Naronian Empire, filled with bloodshed, plagues, famine and other calamities, leading to a massive loss of whatever life survived its apocalyptical collapse. It took over 3500 years for life to recover fully, only to be nearly snuffed out again when the volcano Zharek's Anvil in the Iron Mountains erupted. It's eruption and subsequent several year famines and brief decrease in average temperature marks the end of E1.

Age of Heroes and Monsters

E2Y1 -> E2Y947

The ecological disasters caused by the volcano under the Iron Mountains in the southern regions of the Eastern Realms acted as a catalyst for a renaissance in the Eastern Realms. During this time, advancements were made in magic and many sages and histories were written about the exploits of heroes and monsters (both bestial and humanoid) of this time.

A staunch believer of the Old Gods, Gerial Frose sees himself as the reincarnation of Cradle and crowns himself as God Emperor of the Frosian Empire, marking the end of the second era, and starting the third era.

Age of Seven Emperors

E3Y1 -> E3Y9

A time period ruled by political intrigue and strong oppression of the populace. Because of this, this time period in history has become infamous for its brutality and is rather forgotten by many. One of the things that the Frosian Dynasty did was to change the calendar to that revolving around the rotation of Mother and Father around Cradle, instead of Cradle around Mother, and Mother around Father.

Marishtan Dynastic Age

E4Y1 -> E4Y231

The Marishtan Dynasty repealed many of the decrees and edicts that House Frose introduced, and brought much peace to the troubled and tortured Eastern Realms. Religious freedoms were respected much more, and people were often left to their own devices. Generally considered to be a rather mundane part of history.

    War of Phragos
    Military: War

    An alliance of most of the Duergar kings united under the rule of High King Darmond Phragos the Great, several Drow Houses from the Underdark, Kobold king Rovni, a handful of Goliath and Orc tribes and the Goblin tribe of Goblin king Ragos the Enraged begin their assault on the overworld. The hundred year-war eventually causes the fall of the Kingdom of Varadaral, marking the end of the War of Phragos and the Fifth Age.   The War of Phragos mostly rages in the Kingdom of Varadaral, but also outside of it, the alliance of Phragos rages against the overworld, primarily in the Kingdom of Tessuris. Disguised as (Deep) Gnomes, the inspire race riots in Strolis and Dol Felmor and eventually begin their open assaults against both cities simultaneously. This ensures that the alliance between the county and duchy finally breaks.   The alliance between the Duergar, Drow, Kobolds, Goliath, Orcs, and Goblins lasts for some time, but eventually breaks apart: King Rovni and King Ragos the Enraged fight as often against each other as they do against those of the overworld and their forces are quickly rendered ineffective some 20 years into the war. The Goliath and Orcs remain loyal for most of the war, but are eventually exhausted. The Drow Houses eventually betray High King Darmond Phragos the Great on the Darkest Night , but this is not enough to prevent the collapse of the Kingdom of Varadaral. It does however ensure that the Duergar Alliance breaks   soon after, but it still takes nearly 20 years after the end of the war that the last Duergar king is killed and his troops driven back underground.

This culminates in the Drow houses betraying Darmond Phragos the Great on the winter solstice of 1261 in what is now known as the Darkest Night.

    Collapse of the Kingdom of Varadaral
    Political event

    The War of Phragos ends with the surrender of Guardian, the last free city of the Kingdom of Varadaral to the troops of the Duergar kings. The fall of Guardian ensures that the Kingdom of Varadaral collapses and will not recover for the next 500 years. The fall of the kingdom also causes chaos in the other fiefdoms in the Eastern Realms, in particular in the Kingdom of Tessuris, where the alliance of Strolis and Dol Felmor breaks, and Dol Felmor becomes an independent state.
