Eternal Scouts

Composition

Manpower

The Eternal Scouts recruit only 84 individuals each split into 7 squads of 12, not counting the 10 individuals that stand as the commander of the Scouts and his immediate staff.

Equipment

Each member of a squad for the Eternal Scouts has a unique set-up specific to their specialty. Because of their higher standing and lower membership, the Eternal Scouts are able to customize each member's tool kit. What is standard is a specialized melee weapon, a specialized ranged weapon, and a pack with basic survival tools. Beyond that, it is entirely custom.

Weaponry

Any squad member will have their own special weapons. Since each member is handpicked for a squad it is their unique specialties that the squad will look to complement who is already in the squad. Each member does need both a melee weapon and a ranged weapon to be versatile in combat.

Vehicles

The squad maintains a horse for every Scout. Since they are elite soldiers, usually they will bond with a single horse during training. They have built up a reliable bond between them.

Structure

In every squad, the head is a Captain. They are in control of direct actions given commands and information they receive through their bond with an Overwatcher. While communication with an Overwatcher used to go to anyone in the squad, it was considered quicker for the individual who bonded with an Overwatcher to make decisions.   In the second command is the Leuitenet. Their job is to assign roles for whatever plan is being executed. The captain will give suggestions as information is present, but usually, this individual generally works very well with the captain.    Lastly are the scouts. Some will have a specialty but not always. Any scout that is following a direct command that asks for assistance is considered higher ranking than other scouts. Through team-building, this rarely runs into direct conflict. When it does, the captain gives weight to the highest priority task.

Tactics

Because every squad is uniquely crafted, they each have their own tactics. Some squads are better at gathering information while others may be better as backup or ground support. Their deployment is determined by their specialties and individual tactics.

Training

After the basic training, recruits will go into an intensive extended training regiment. The recruit is taught how to use every kind of weapon at their disposal as well as hand to hand combat. They work with each squad and get to know everyone. The training can take several years to complete and they may be kicked out of it at any time. In low-stress recon missions, the recruit may be brought along to see how they act in the field.

Logistics

Logistical Support

The Eternal Scouts take on dangerous missions to infiltrate and gather information on the surrounding Orcium camps. This comes down from command in the Silver Army in order to gather more intelligence. On some missions, they can call upon other squads of the Scouts to gather other intelligence that may assist in the mission. Because of their value, they can get nearly any kind of support that the Silver Army is able to organize. Long-range battle tactics are one of the areas that are developed specifically to aid the Eternal Scouts and to increase their ability to defend from a distance.

Auxilia

Each squad of the Eternal Scouts is a specially trained mage called a Overwatcher. They specialize in perception based magic and are magical connections between one member of the team and the Overwatcher. Using perception magic, they can relay important information instantly between the two. This specialized magic helps each squad from a safe distance, usually in the Silver City. This position has an emotional toll as the bonding between the two are a deeper connection. Their magic works because they can sense through the one who is bonded. Pain and injuries transfer through this connection as well as death. Many Overwatcher's have been driven mad by the experience as they continue to feel the connection as they are a spirit.

Upkeep

The act of recruitment is the most costly of this unit. The individuals must be fit before joining so many recruits are considered. The lifestyles of the unit while higher than others make up a fraction of other units cost since the Eternal Scouts is so small by comparison. This also means the upkeep in equipment is also better by comparison.

Recruitment

Every new soldier brought to the Silver City to fight the war is trained for the battles. During this training, the trainers keep an eye on anyone they see as exceptional. Special recruiters from the Eternal Scouts show up and have their own observations of the potential recruits. Once their training is complete, they are assigned to the Eternal Scouts if their recruiters think they are up for the challenge.   Once they've been chosen they have to go through even more intense training. These trainings are held by the Captains of each squad and getting a feel for the potential candidate. If the recruit succeeds at the training (which is not a guarantee to happen) they are brought on to whatever squad needs a role to be filled and liked the candidate during training. If they don't succeed they are returned to the Silver Army to be assigned elsewhere. Because there is a stigma that the Eternal Scouts are a sure way to death, some will purposely fail in order to avoid working with them. This is not shied at, as it proves they don't have the mental fortitude to handle their work.

History

When the Conclave was formed, Faerune suggested the formation of the elite soldiers to be used regularly based on his own experiences fighting in the war. There were split opinions on the matter, but if Faerune could prove its effectiveness then they would take up the scouts as an official program.   With the help of some friends, they were able to train the first squad of the Eternal Scouts. They had several victories that led to more squads being recruited. Luck ran out, and the 1st Squad of the Eternal Scouts were all killed in a recon mission that was supposed to be low-risk. While the Conclave saw it as a cost of war, it drove Faeron out of the Eternal Scouts. His old friend Raulyn, had become the commander of the Silver Army and appointed the second commander to the Eternal Scouts, to keep Faeron's original dream alive. Faeron distanced himself from friends. He came out of seclusion when the Emerald Empire said they had claim to the regions previously held by Sorcerer King Raynaldus. The proclamation that they had his grandson spurred Faerune back into action.    By this time Raulyn Thunderchaser had passed away of natural causes. A unit of new Eternal Scouts followed in his lead to the Emerald Empire to handle the claim to the toppled empire. These events would happen just before the Eruption of the Red Dragon and the start of the The Dragon War.   Since then they were used as important tactical missions.

Historical loyalties

The loyalty of them always came down to the Silver Army and the people of Itherion. On the rare occasion that they have disobeyed orders, they were under the consideration of the member of the Army and the people they were helping protect.

Really interesting - you've obviously thought a lot about these guys! :) I think maybe an introductory paragraph would be a good idea to ease people into the article though. As it is, you're just kind of thrown into the man power. :)

Thats completely fair. I have plans later to clean this up more, but this helped me get the core details out for me to work on other aspects of the Silver City culture and the Army.
