Carcosa

Carcosa is the smallest of the five continents of the known world, the others being Eucros, Shuhos, Matsumaya, and Ekkezan. Most of the area of Carcosa is governed by a political entity known as The United Republic of Carcosa, while the ancient subterrenean ruins of the Deep Roads remain largely unexplored and uninhabited. The closest foreign nations to Carcosa are the Free Cities, a collection of independent city-states beyond the Ruby Mountains. To the east of Carcosa lie the Isles of Ibion and Eastcliff, and the continent Eucros further beyond.

Geography

The continent of Carcosa is long and relatively narrow, extending from the Broken Gulf to the south and the Empty Sea to the north. Carcosa has a mostly temperate climate with the exception of the dry lands in the southern end of the continent, and the steep frozen peaks of the Carcosi Alps mountain range. Carcosa stretches roughly 700 miles from north to south, and 300 miles from its widest point east to west. The southern lands of Carcosa are less densely populated than the north depite the south's notable size. The five major cities of Carcosa are, in order of size: New Cresthill, Cliffwatch, Oldstone, Westray, and Mageharbor. The continent of Carcosa is also home to the mysterious Deep Roads, a massive ancient subterranean highway underneath the Carcosi Alps. A large cliff shelf separates the lower half of the continent, and serves as the border between the Riverlands and Chrysos.

North

Northern carcosa is the largest region in the continent, and is sparsely populated outside of urban areas, despite being the area with the highest population density on the continent. The region contains vast wilderness of forests, pine covered hills, snowcapped mountains, and cliffside beaches.
Many different peoples and groups have come to call northern Carcosa their home, notably the United Republic of Carcosa was originally founded and still headquartered in the capital city of New Cresthill in northern Carcosa to this day. Both New Cresthill and Oldstone are believed by scholars to be built over ancient cities from the Old Empire, with Oldstone being dated at over 2000 years old. The more rural parts of northern Carcosa however are home to the various different native tribes of Dragonborn, Tiefling, and Orcs, all protected and granted lands to serve as reservations by the Republic.
The Carcosi Alps is one of the tallest mountain ranges known to the western world, and has been the home of many different species of Dragon throughout history. Much of the Carcosi Alps have not been mapped or explored due to the rough terrain and weather conditions. Even less is known of the mysterious Deep Roads that lay underneath the mountain range, except for the fact the tunnels can be used to easily travel across from one side of the mountain range to the other, and that many who attempt to traverse the Deep Roads never return.

Riverlands

The central region of Carcosa, also known as the Riverlands, spans from the Mighty Straight to the north, to the Gold Cliffs to the south. The land is fertile and the majority of Carcosi food is produced in the Riverlands. The Riverlands contain several major cities and towns, most notably Mageharbour.

Chrysos

Chrysos is the southernmost region of Carcosa. It stretches from the Gold Cliffs to the north to the Broken Gulf to the south. It is the hottest region in Carcosa and features the only desert on the continent. The land contains vast wilderness of hills, dead plains, and dry safari. Chrysos receives notably less rainfall than the rest of the continent. The land is most famously known for the golden color of its landscape, with the word Chrysos literally meaning "Golden" in Dragonborn language, as well as the wild and untamed tribes and wildlife that inhabit the region.
